Duke volleyball junior Nailah Waterfield will keep a weekly blog this season chronicling the Blue Devils' 2010-11 campaign. Last season, Duke won the 2010 ACC Championship, made the NCAA Tournament for the sixth straight year and advanced all the way to the Round of Eight.

Nothing Wrong With a Little Pressure
If it is true that you are only as good as your last game, then Duke Volleyball is great today. Exactly what we set out to be.
This week was a bit strange for us in that we had a Thursday, Sunday schedule ahead of us. We were facing two teams that had both beaten us in three, and we knew we hadn't shown either of them what we could truly do. With our amount of home games trickling to an end, we wanted to put our best foot forward. Unfortunately, that was not the case on Thursday. We were disappointed with our performance, and knew we could do better. We had a solid practice Friday, and on Saturday we spent the day together as a team.
Saturday we gathered at Kellie and Sophia's apartment and, after watching a bit of Duke Football together, we talked about what Sunday's game meant. No one was afraid to say it: Florida State was going to be the biggest match of the season. We wanted that pressure because we knew we could rise to it; we had been doing it all season. We stepped up and won when we knew it was our seniors' last time to play Carolina, we stepped up and won when we were playing teams our seniors had never lost to over their four years, we had stepped up and we needed to step up on Sunday. And that is exactly what we did.
We took Sunday's match against undefeated an ACC opponent one point at a time and worked hard for every point we earned. Coach Waz told us the key to winning was to be great and that is exactly what we were on Sunday afternoon.
This weekend marks the last ACC road trip for our senior class, and it is one of our favorite, but coldest trips. Right now, the goal is to treasure every moment we have together and every opportunity we have to take our court. Hope to see you all out against Wake Forest this Tuesday to honor four very important parts of this Duke Volleyball program and to watch us in our last ACC match.Nailah A. Waterfield
