DURHAM, N.C. - The Duke University volleyball program will bring in the No. 10 recruiting class in the nation according to PrepVolleyball.com as the Blue Devils added five talented student-athletes for the class of 2016. The incoming freshmen class represents Duke's highest rated class and seventh top-30 class since Prep Volleyball began its rankings in 2003.
Duke's five incoming freshmen join nine returning letterwinners from last season's 20-9 team, which advanced to the NCAA Tournament for the 17th time in program history. The Blue Devils' class of 2016 includes 5-11 outside hitter Breanna Atkinson (Ashburn, Va.), 6-2 middle blocker Elizabeth Campbell (Parker, Colo.), 6-3 outside hitter Emily Sklar (San Jose, Calif.), 6-4 rightside hitter/setter Christina Vucich (Morrisville, N.C.) and 5-10 outside hitter/defensive specialist Laura Williams (Western Springs, Ill.).
Three of Duke's five signees were also ranked in PrepVolleyball.com's "Senior Aces" list, which ranked the top-100 2012 recruits last fall. Sklar led the class with a No. 28 ranking, while Vucich (No. 60) and Atkinson (No. 89) also received high marks.
The Blue Devils are set to open the 2012 campaign with the Duke Invitational Friday-Saturday, August 24-25 in Cameron Indoor Stadium.
