DURHAM, N.C. - After earning ACC Freshman of the Week honors Monday, Duke volleyball freshman Emily Sklar picked up a second honor, garnering Ronald McDonald House Charities Duke Student-Athlete of the Week accolades.
San Jose, Calif., native Sklar helped the Blue Devils to an unblemished 3-0 record at the Duke Invitational this past weekend, posting 33 kills and .333 hitting in addition to 28 digs.
In the season opener versus William & Mary, Sklar, who earned all-tournament team honors for her efforts, led all players with 14 kills and also chipped in with seven digs. The rookie added six kills and 10 digs against Fairfield, then concluded the weekend with a 13-kill, 11 dig performance versus 2011 Horizon League champion Milwaukee. Sklar played in every set for the weekend, averaging 3.67 kills and 3.11 digs per set to rank first and second on the team, respectively.
Duke will travel to Kentucky this week to take on Louisville, Samford and Marshall at the Louisville Invitational Friday through Saturday.
