CHARLOTTESVILLE, Va. - Senior Megan Hendrickson totaled a season-high 13 kills and 19 digs to lead the Duke University volleyball team past Virginia 3-1 (25-19, 24-26, 27-25, 25-15) Friday evening at Memorial Gymnasium.

Hendrickson, one of three seniors on the Blue Devil roster, was a stable presence for Duke, picking up her first double-double of the season. The Jenison, Mich., native hit .333 for the match, committing just one attack error on 36 attempts, and knocked down a team-high six kills in the tightly-contested third set.

"Megan had a great night," said head coach Jolene Nagel. "She was really effective for us offensively, and she also played great defense. She was just steady the entire night. To have that kind of performance, 19 digs on top of 13 kills, that's pretty exciting."

As a team, Duke (12-10, 3-7 ACC) hit .257 while limiting the Cavaliers to .167 hitting. Junior Chelsea Cook and sophomore Jeme Obeime both amassed 10 kills, while senior Christiana Gray recorded eight kills and did not commit an attack error on 25 attempts.

"I think a lot of great things happened tonight and I'm really pleased how we came out and were aggressive," added Nagel. "Virginia has some talented players and our team did a good job in transition, especially as the night went on."

Natalie Bausback led Virginia (6-15, 0-10) with 20 kills on the evening, while Kayla Sears and Jessica O'Shoney registered 12 kills each for UVa.

Duke opened the match with a 1-0 lead after capturing the first set, 25-19, behind six kills from Cook, who hit .750 in the first frame. Virginia would come back to tie the contest 1-1 with a narrow 26-24 victory in set two.

Down 15-10 in the third set, the Blue Devils put together an 8-1 run behind three kills from Obeime and an ace from Hendrickson. Duke edged ahead 22-20 following a Hendrickson kill, but the Blue Devils faced a 25-24 deficit after a 5-2 UVa rally. The Blue Devils closed out the frame with three straight points, starting with a Hendrickson kill and ending with a Gray solo block, to take the 2-1 lead overall.

Duke would put away the match in set four, holding Virginia to .070 hitting in a 25-15 victory. Freshman Elizabeth Campbell recorded four of her eight kills in the final set, including the game winner to seal the victory for the Blue Devils.

Next up, the Blue Devils travel to Blacksburg, Va., to face Virginia Tech in ACC action. The Blue Devils and the Hokies square off at 6 p.m. Saturday in Cassell Coliseum.
