DURHAM, N.C. – Senior Ali McCurdy garnered Capital One Academic All-District III honors as announced by the Collegiate Sports Information Directors of America (CoSIDA) Thursday. The accolade is the second of McCurdy’s career as the Tampa, Fla., native also received Academic All-District III recognition in 2012.
A four-year starter at libero for the Blue Devils, McCurdy is set to graduate with a degree in Sociology. The ACC’s all-time digs leader, McCurdy has rewritten the Duke record books, setting the school standard for career digs (2,316) and digs per set (5.18). Among active players, she ranks second nationally in career digs, trailing only Western Michigan’s Lena Oliver.
This season, McCurdy averages 4.76 digs per set to rank second in the ACC. In addition, she has picked up 10 or more digs in 51 consecutive matches.
First-team Academic All-District honorees advance to the Capital One Academic All-America Team ballot, where first, second and third team All-America honorees will be selected later this month.
Following a four-match home stand, Duke (20-3, 11-1 ACC) is set to travel this weekend to Maryland and Pittsburgh.
