DURHAM, N.C. – After working through early-season jitters in the opening set, the Duke volleyball dominated the second two frames en route to a season-opening 3-0 (25-22, 25-10, 25-19) victory against North Florida Friday afternoon at the Duke Invitational.

Senior outside hitter Jeme Obeime pounded a match-high 16 kills to pace a potent Duke offensive attack. Obeime hit a scalding .583 over the course of the match, committing just two errors on 24 attempts. The sophomore middle blocker duo of Alyse Whitaker and Jordan Tucker combined for 20 kills as both Blue Devils hit over .500 as well. Whitaker tallied a career-best 11 kills, while Tucker added nine.

Seven attack errors in the opening set kept the stanza close. A series of miscues allowed North Florida to chip away at a 15-10 lead, and the Ospreys tied the game at 20-20 following an Erin Edwards kill. Morgan Van Alstine dropped a kill to edge the Ospreys ahead 22-21 before Duke answered with a thunderous Obeime kill. Freshman Cadie Bates added her kill of the set, bookended by Whitaker tallies to close out the first frame.

Duke found its rhythm in the second set and cruised to the 25-10 win. Led by Obeime with seven kills and Whitaker with four, the Blue Devils amassed an impressive 18 kills and committed just one attack error as a team.

The Blue Devils continued to roll in the final frame, clinching the match with a 25-19 victory. Obeime again paced Duke with seven kills, and Tucker and Whitaker added four apiece.

Sophomore libero Sasha Karelov led all players with 12 digs. All three Duke setters saw time with senior Maggie Deichmeister collecting a match-high 32 assists.

Duke takes on High Point in its second match of the day, scheduled for a 7 p.m., start in Cameron Indoor Stadium.
