DURHAM, N.C. – After practicing for just over a week, the preseason seventh-ranked Duke women’s soccer team will host Tennessee Friday, Aug. 16 at 5:00 p.m., in an exhibition contest at Koskinen Stadium in Durham, N.C. The match is free admission to all fans.
Head coach Robbie Church and the Blue Devils return five starters and 22 letterwinners off the NCAA Elite Eight squad from a year ago that registered a 15-6-2 overall record. Duke welcomes back 95 percent of its scoring, including nine student-athletes who scored one or more goals last year, including the top four scorers from a season ago.
Tennessee is coming off a season where the Lady Vols notched a 14-5-3 overall record under head coach Brian Pensky. The Lady Vols return eight starters and 16 letterwinners from their 2012 NCAA Tournament squad.
Following the exhibition contest, Duke will open the regular season on the road at 12th-ranked Texas A&M on Friday, Aug. 23. The Blue Devils will close the weekend at South Carolina on Sunday, Aug. 25. The first home contest will be in the Duke Nike Classic Sept. 6 and 8, which includes three top-10 ranked teams -- North Carolina, UCLA and Duke.
