CHARLOTTE, N.C. - Duke received 21 first-place votes and was picked to finish second in the ACC by the media in the ACC Preseason Media Poll conducted at ACC Operation Basketball on Wednesday. Duke forward Mason Plumlee was selected to the Preseason All-ACC first team.
NC State took top honors in the poll, receiving 26 first-place votes to Duke's 21. North Carolina was picked third, and Florida State -- which received the six remaining first-place votes -- rounded out the top four. Duke, with 589 points, finished just shy of NC State's 601 points for the top spot.
The Preseason All-ACC Team included Plumlee, NC State's CJ Leslie and Lorenzo Brown, Florida State's Michael Snaer and North Carolina's Michael McAdoo.
The Blue Devils return four starters and 10 letterwinners from a 2011-12 team that finished 27-7 overall and 13-3 in the ACC for a second-place league finish. Anchoring the Blue Devils will be the senior trio of Plumlee, Ryan Kelly and Seth Curry, who each averaged double-digit scoring last season.
Duke kicks off the 2012-13 season this Friday, Oct. 19, with the annual Countdown to Craziness Presented by PNC in Cameron Indoor Stadium. Doors to the event open at 6:30 p.m., and the Blue-White scrimmage tips off at 8:30 p.m. Tickets to the event are available online at https://tkt.xosn.com/tickets/TicketLanding.dbml?DB_OEM_ID=4200&db_oem_id=4200 or by calling (919) 681-BLUE.
