DURHAM, N.C. -- Recently, GoDuke.com sat down with senior Tyler Thornton to learn more about the Washington, D.C., native.

GoDuke.com: What are your three favorite things about being a student-athlete at Duke?
Tyler Thornton: First, playing in Cameron is probably the best feeling ever. Then, the students and how close the students are. Starting with freshman year to know all the friends you made and all the people you have met is probably one of the best things about being out here. And third just the area, with all the other schools and the great traditions in the area. To be able to walk around and say I am a Duke student-athlete is one of the great things about being here too.

GoDuke.com: What is your favorite on-the-court memory?
TT: I have two. The championship game in Maui. And the game Austin Rivers hit that shot at Carolina. Definitely two great games against two great teams.

GoDuke.com: What is your favorite memory away from the court?
TT: My freshman year when me, Josh Hairston and Kyrie Irving spent a lot of time with our senior class. They really took care of us.

GoDuke.com: Who are three people you model your game after?
TT: KG (Kevin Garnett) and his intensity. I try to bring his intensity, his fire and passion for the game. Chris Paul is always one of my favorite guys to watch when I was growing up. Nolan Smith was my childhood idol growing up in the D.C. area.

GoDuke.com: Describe yourself in a couple of words.
TT: Laid-back and funny.

GoDuke.com: Name three things that motivate you to perform.
TT: My passion to play the game, wanting to represent my family and wanting to represent the school and Duke tradition. Also wanting to represent coach for giving me the opportunity to play here.

GoDuke.com: What are three things you would like to do in the next 10 years?
TT: Play professionally somewhere, whether it is here in the states or in Europe. At some point I want to start a family – that is something I really want to do- and be a mentor for the younger guys coming up. My younger cousin and his team is coming up and they will be in college and to kind of be there for them and guide those guys in the right direction.

GoDuke.com: What is your postgame snack of choice?
TT: I get an Italian sandwich. I get an Italian everywhere I go, no matter what sandwich shop it is.
