TULSA, Okla. – Three representatives of the Duke men’s tennis team advanced to the second round of the qualifying draw on Monday at the ITA All-American Championships hosted by the University of Tulsa.

Sophomore Raphael Hemmeler, ranked No. 76 in the ITA preseason rankings, defeated Vanderbilt’s Jeff Offerdahl in a hard fought match, 4-6, 7-6 (1), 6-1. Hemmeler will move on to face Virginia Tech’s Andreas Bjerrehus in the second round on Tuesday at 11:30 a.m. ET.

Fellow sophomore Jason Tahir advanced to the second round after defeating UNLV’s Tamas Batyi in straight sets, 6-1, 7-5. Tahir will advance to face Drake’s James McKie, who advanced from the pre-qualifying stage, in the second round Tuesday at 10 a.m.

Also seeing action on Monday was Michael Redlicki, who defeated Virginia’s Harrison Richmond, 7-6 (3), 4-6, 6-3. Richmond advanced to the qualifying stage as a lucky loser alternate from pre-qualifying. Up next, Redlicki, the top-ranked freshman in the ITA preseason rankings, will face Georgia’s Ben Wagland in the second round on Tuesday at 1 p.m.

In addition to the second round of the singles qualifying matches scheduled to be played on Tuesday, the first and second rounds of the doubles qualifying draw will also be played at the Michael D. Case Tennis Center. The team of Tahir and Redlicki will be the lone duo representing the Blue Devils in qualifying.
