Fellow sophomore Jason Tahir advanced to the second round after defeating UNLV’s Tamas Batyi in straight sets, 6-1, 7-5. Tahir will advance to face Drake’s James McKie, who advanced from the pre-qualifying stage, in the second round Tuesday at 10 a.m.

Also seeing action on Monday was Michael Redlicki, who defeated Virginia’s Harrison Richmond, 7-6 (3), 4-6, 6-3. Richmond advanced to the qualifying stage as a lucky loser alternate from pre-qualifying.
