Notre Dame 79, Duke 77

Team Notes:
•    Duke head coach Mike Krzyzewski lost to a former Duke assistant coach – Notre Dame’s Mike Brey – for the first time in his career. Krzyzewski is now 18-1 all-time against his former Duke assistants with the following records: 2-0 vs. Tommy Amaker (Michigan), 2-1 vs. Brey (1-0 at Delaware, 1-1 at Notre Dame), 6-0 vs. Mike Dement (Cornell, UNC Greensboro), 3-0 vs. Tim O’Toole (Fairfield), 1-0 vs. Quin Snyder (Missouri) and 4-0 vs. Chuck Swenson (William & Mary).
•    The loss was Duke’s first in program history to an ACC newcomer in the first conference meeting between Duke and the new school. Prior to Saturday’s loss, Duke was 5-0 against ACC newcomers in league debuts since the ACC first added Georgia Tech in 1979. Duke also defeated Florida State (75-62 in 1991-92), Miami (92-83 in 2004-05), Virginia Tech (100-65 in 2004-05) and Boston College (83-81 in 2005-06) in their ACC debuts.
•    Notre Dame became the first team in Duke’s past six games to top the 70-point plateau.
•    Notre Dame became the first team to shoot over 40.0 percent from three-point range against Duke this season, finishing 6-of-12 (.500). Duke has outshot its opponent from three-point range, in terms of percentage, in all but three games this season: versus Arizona, Notre Dame and UCLA.
•    Duke forced a season-low five turnovers against the Fighting Irish. Notre Dame is only the second team (Vermont) to commit less than 10 turnovers against the Blue Devils.
•    Duke had a 20-point scorer for the 13th time in 14 games. Rodney Hood and Quinn Cook both reached that plateau, combining for 49 of Duke’s 77 points (63.6 percent). Duke has combined for 22 20-point games this season, including 10 from Jabari Parker, seven from Hood, three from Quinn Cook and one apiece from Andre Dawkins and Rasheed Sulaimon.
•    Duke used the starting lineup of Quinn Cook, Rodney Hood, Josh Hairston, Jabari Parker and Tyler Thornton for the seventh time this season. That starting five is Duke’s most used this season. Cook and Parker have started all 14 games.
•    Notre Dame snapped Duke’s five-game winning streak. All five Duke wins during that span were double-figure victories.
•    Duke lost an ACC opener for the first time since falling 69-67 to Virginia Tech in 2006-07. Duke had won six straight league openers during that stretch. Duke is 26-8 in conference openers under Coach K.
•    Duke sank 12-of-28 (.429) three-pointers to hit double-digit three-pointers for the fourth straight game. Duke is shooting .398 (43-of-108) from three-point range during that stretch.
•    Rodney Hood hit a three-pointer as time expired at the end of the first half to give Duke a 37-35 halftime lead for the 13th time in 14 games this season. Duke has yet to trail at halftime this season and is 10-3 when leading at the half.
•    Freshman Jabari Parker scored just seven points – his first game as a Blue Devil without double-digit scoring – to finish with just 9.1 percent of Duke’s scoring. Duke had gotten at least 19 percent of its scoring from Parker in each of the first 12 games this season – including over 25 percent seven times and over 30 percent twice – before Parker accounted for less than 15 percent in back-to-back games against Elon and Notre Dame.
•    Duke played its 225th straight game as a top-10 team. The Blue Devils are 186-39 (.827) in those games.

Player Notes:

Quinn Cook
•    Made his 48th consecutive start, the longest active streak on the team.
•    Reached 20 points for the third time this season and scored in double figures for the 12th time. Cook finished with 23 points – second to only Rodney Hood, who scored 27 – by sinking 7-of-14 shots from the field, including 3-of-5 from three-point range.
•    Hit a three-pointer in the 10th straight game and finished 3-of-5 from long range. Cook has multiple treys in five of his past six games and 10 times this season.
•    Logged four assists with just two turnovers for his 10th game with two or fewer turnovers. Cook owns a 3.07:1 assist-to-turnover ratio this season.
•    Recorded multiple steals for the sixth straight game, finishing with two against Notre Dame. Cook is averaging 3.7 steals per game during that span and ranks fifth in the ACC with 1.87 steals per game this season.

Andre Dawkins
•    Contributed six points in 18 minutes off the bench while hitting a three-pointer for the seventh straight game.
•    Attempted his first two-point field goal in four games. Dawkins sank the long jumper off the glass, drew a foul and hit the ensuing free throw for his second three-point play of the season. Dawkins had attempted 23 straight three-point field goals before prior to the and-one jumpshot, hitting 12 of those treys (52.1 percent).

Rodney Hood
•    Recorded his seventh 20-point game of the season, finishing with a team-high 27 points on 8-of-17 shooting. Hood has scored in double figures in 12 of Duke’s 14 games this season.
•    Set a career high with 17 field goal attempts and fell one made field goal shy of tying his career high. Duke is 8-2 when Hood attempts at least 10 field goals.
•    Knocked down a career-high five three-pointers, while shooting 50.0 percent from long range. The 10 three-point attempts were also a career high.
•    Sank all six free throws to improve his season free throw percentage to .836 (61-of-73) on the season.

Amile Jefferson
•    Led Duke with nine rebounds to record at least six rebounds in the sixth straight game. Jefferson has led Duke in rebounds four times in that span and is averaging a team-high 8.7 boards per game during the run.
•    `Recorded a block for the sixth straight game.

Jabari Parker
•    Failed to score in double figures for the first time in his Duke career. Parker hit 2-of-10 field goals on the way to seven points.
