DURHAM, N.C. – Duke’s Jabari Parker has been named to the Wayman Tisdale Award Midseason Watch List as announced by the USBWA Friday. The Chicago, Ill., native is currently averaging 18.9 points, 7.7 rebounds and 1.2 blocks per game for the Blue Devils.
The award will be presented to the national freshman of the year at the Devon Energy College Basketball Awards on April 14 at the National Cowboy and Western Heritage Museum in Oklahoma City. The Oscar Robertson Trophy and the Henry Iba Coach of the Year Award will also be presented at the gala to be held annually the Monday following the NCAA Men's Final Four.
Parker is joined on the list by Joel Embiid (Kansas), Tyler Ennis (Syracuse), Aaron Gordon (Arizona), Jordan Mickey (LSU), Julius Randle (Kentucky), Noah Vonleh (Indiana), Andrew Wiggins (Kansas) and James Young (Kentucky).
Parker, ranked fourth among all NCAA freshman in scoring, has matched a Duke freshman record with 11 20-point games. He also has five double-doubles on the season, including a 17-point, 15-rebound effort in Duke’s last outing against Miami. He ranks among the ACC leaders in scoring (T-2nd), rebounds (T-4th), defensive rebounds (3rd) and field goal percentage (5th).
Six of the nine players are also featured on the Oscar Robertson Trophy Midseason Watch List as candidates for national player of the year.
