DURHAM, N.C. – Duke freshman Jabari Parker swept the ACC’s weekly awards, winning ACC Player and ACC Freshman of the Week, the Atlantic Coast Conference announced Monday.
Parker, a 6-8, 235-pound forward from Chicago, Ill., averaged 25.0 points and 12.0 rebounds per game to lead Duke past Wake Forest, 83-63, and Boston College, 89-68, this past week. Parker shot 74.1 percent (20-of-27) from the field while adding five blocks, two assists and two steals in the two-game set.
The ACC Player of the Week citation is Parker’s second of the season, while the ACC Rookie honor is his seventh and third in a row. Parker is approaching the ACC record for rookie of the week selections, trailing the 10 awards received by North Carolina’s Tyler Hansbrough (2005-06) and Georgia Tech’s Kenny Anderson (1989-90).
Parker’s week began with a 21-point, eight-rebound effort in a 20-point home win over Wake Forest. He hit 8-of-10 field goals while adding two blocks and two steals in just 27 minutes of action.
He followed that performance with a career night against Boston College, setting career highs with 29 points and 16 rebounds for his ACC-leading eighth double-double of the year. He hit 12-of-17 field goals and added three blocks and five offensive rebounds.
Parker and the Blue Devils take on Tobacco Road Rival North Carolina Wednesday at 9 p.m. at the Dean E. Smith Center in Chapel Hill, N.C. The game airs on ESPN and the ACC Network as well as the Blue Devil IMG Sports Network.
