Virginia 72, Duke 63

Team Notes:
•    Duke fell, 72-63, to top-seeded Virginia in the ACC Championship game. It was Duke’s first loss in the conference championship game since falling, 95-87, to Maryland in overtime on March 14, 2004. Duke had won in five consecutive ACC Championship game appearances prior to Sunday’s loss.
•    Duke made its 31st appearance in the conference final, the second-most championship game appearances behind only North Carolina (32). Duke is 19-12 (.613) all-time in the ACC Championship game.
•    Duke fell to 15-4 against Virginia in the ACC Tournament. Duke had won six consecutive ACC Tournament games against Virginia. The meeting was the first between the two teams in the conference final.
•    Duke reached the ACC Championship game as the No. 3 seed for the fourth consecutive time.
•    Duke entered halftime trailing 28-25, marking only the third time all season Duke has trailed at the break. Duke’s 25 first-half points were a season low.
•    Virginia attempted 38 free throws while Duke attempted just 11. The -27 margin was the largest against Duke in the Coach K era, topping the 14-40 (-26) margin Colorado had against the Blue Devils on Dec. 2, 1982.
•    Virginia led Duke 16-7 in the first half before Duke opened a 12-3 run. The Blue Devils held the Cavaliers without a field goal for a span of 8:18 in the first half to overcome the nine-point deficit.
•    Duke played its 252nd consecutive game as a ranked team. The Blue Devils are 209-43 (.829) during that run, which began at the start of the 2007-08 season.

Player Notes:

Rodney Hood
•    Scored in double figures for the 29th time this season and ninth straight game.
•    Knocked down a three-pointer, giving him at least one trey in 31 of Duke’s 34 games. Hood went 2-of-2 from the line and is shooting .421 (69-of-164) from beyond the arc this season.

Amile Jefferson
•    Scored 11 points on 5-of-7 shooting from the floor. Jefferson leads Duke with a .655 (93-of-142) field goal percentage.
•    Led Duke in rebounding for the tournament, averaging 8.0 boards per game. He hauled in a team-high 11 offensive rebounds.

Jabari Parker
•    Logged his Duke freshman record 18th 20-point game of the season, finishing with a team-high 23 points. Parker averaged 20.3 points per game in the ACC Tournament with 6.3 rebounds and 1.3 steals per game.
•    Shot just 2-of-10 and scored eight points in the first half but bounced back to shoot .7-of-14 with 15 points in the second half.
•    With Duke trailing 43-40 at the 10:46 mark in the second half, Parker scored seven points with a block and a steal over a span of 1:24. Parker snatched a Virginia pass on Duke’s perimeter, took it the length of the court and threw down a right-handed slam to pull Duke within two. He then hit a three-pointer, blocked a shot on Duke’s basket and strung together a spin move and jumper to give Duke the lead.
•    Attempted a career-high 24 field goals, tied for the second most in school history by a Duke freshman. That matches the 24 field goal attempts by Mike Gminski (at Wake Forest, 1/19/1977) and trails only the 26 by Johnny Dawkins (vs. Maryland, 2/21/1983).
•    Extended a streak of 17 consecutive double-figure scoring games. Parker has scored in double figures in 32 of Duke’s 34 games, breaking the Duke freshman record for double-figure scoring games.
•    Increased his school freshman dunk record total to 61.

Andre Dawkins
•    Scored nine points on 3-of-5 shooting from three-point range to move into 61st on Duke’s all-time scoring chart (1,014).
