  • Duke advanced to the NCAA Tournament Sweet 16 for the second straight year and 25th time in the 34 appearances by the school. Duke will face the No. 4 seed Purdue, who defeated Texas A&M, 63-61, in overtime. The Blue Devils have a 39-8 record all-time as a No. 1 seed in the tournament.
  • The Blue Devils are now 6-3 all-time against teams from the PAC-10 in the NCAA Tournament, including a 1-1 record against California. Duke earned its first ever win over the Golden Bears as Cal leads the series 2-1.
  • Duke is making its 15th straight NCAA Tournament under head coach Mike Krzyzewski and 26th in his 30 overall seasons. Krzyzewski extended his NCAA record for tournament wins to 73. He is now 73-22 (.768) all-time in the NCAA Tournament, the second highest winning percentage among coaches all-time.
  • The Blue Devils improved to 31-5 on the season. The 31 victories tie for the eighth most in a single season by a Duke team, matching the win total of the 2001-02 and 2003-04 teams.
  • Duke held California to 53 points, the 19th time this season the Blue Devils have limited its opponent to under 60 points this season. Duke has held opponents to less than 60 points in nine of its last 13 games.
  • When leading at the half this season, Duke now has a 26-1 record.
  • The Blue Devils’ four post players (Lance Thomas, Brian Zoubek, Mason Plumlee and Miles Plumlee) combined to shoot 7-of-9 (.778) for 14 points and 13 rebounds in the first half. For the game the four players combined for 24 points and 27 rebounds, shooting 11-of-15 (.733) from the field.
  • Duke matched a season-low with five turnovers, equaling the total they had against Tulsa on Feb. 25. The Blue Devils only committed three turnovers in the first half while forcing seven turnovers, leading to a 12-2 advantage in points off turnovers in the opening stanza.
  • The Blue Devils held California to .250 (3-of-12) shooting from beyond the arc, the 20th time this season an opponent shot under 30 percent from deep. Meanwhile, Duke made only 3-of-17 (.176) from long range, just the second time this season they have shot less than 20 percent (.083 vs. Boston College).
  • With Nolan Smith’s 20-point game, Duke has three different players (Smith, Jon Scheyer and Kyle Singler) who have combined for 45 games with 20 or more points. All three players have scored at least 20 points 15 times this season, while Duke has had a 20-point scorer in 30 of the 36 games on the year.
  • Duke improved to 26-2 when outrebounding its opposition, edging Cal 34-33 on the glass.


Player Notes:

Jon Scheyer

  • Senior Jon Scheyer became the 10th Duke player to join the 2,000-point club with a free throw at the 9:26 mark of the second half.
  • He has started in 43 consecutive games and is one of 22 players in school history with 100 or more career starts. 
  • Scheyer played in his 140th career game, moving him into a tie with Bobby Hurley for eighth on Duke’s career games played list.
  • With only seven points, Scheyer failed to reach 10 points for just the second time this season – the other a nine-point performance against Wake Forest.
  • Scheyer extended his streak to 29 consecutive games with a made three-point field goal and leads the team with 98 treys this season. 
  • With three steals Scheyer moved past Bobby Hurley and into a tie with Steve Wojciechowski for eighth all-time at Duke with 203 steals.


Kyle Singler

  • Junior Kyle Singler extended his consecutive starts streak to 64 games, the longest current streak on the team. He now has 106 career starts as one of 22 players in school history with 100 or more career starts.
  • Singler reached double figures in scoring for the 32nd time this season and 91st career game. Over his last 10 games, he is averaging 21.1 points per game.
  • The two blocks mark the seventh game this season Singler has recorded two or more blocks.


Nolan Smith

  • Junior Nolan Smith scored at least 20 points for the 15th time this season after only one 20-point game his first two seasons. He tallied his 32nd game this season with 10 or more points and has 55 career double-figure scoring games.
  • Smith scored nine of Duke’s first 14 points with 11 of his team-high 20 points coming in the first half. He has led the team in scoring 12 times this season.


Lance Thomas

  • Senior Lance Thomas pulled down nine rebounds, giving him seven games this season with eight or more. It was his highest rebounding total since Feb. 25 when he had 10 rebounds against Tulsa.


Brian Zoubek

  • Senior Brian Zoubek recorded his fourth double-double of the season and sixth of his career with 14 points and 13 rebounds.
  • He shot a perfect 6-of-6 from the field for 10 points, improving his team-leading field goal percentage to .643 (81-of-126).
  • Zoubek reached double figures in scoring for the eighth time this season and fourth in his 12 games as a starter.
  • The double-figure rebounding game was the 10th on the year for Zoubek and 12th of his career. He has grabbed 10 or more rebounds in six of his 12 games as a starter. He is averaging 9.0 rebounds per game in his 12 games as a starter.
  • The six offensive rebounds mark the 10th time on the year that he has pulled down five or more offensive boards.
