NEW YORK – CBS Sports, college basketball's leading network broadcaster, has announced that the Duke at North Carolina game will be broadcast in prime time on Saturday, March 5, 2011 (8:00 PM, ET). This marks the first time that the Duke-North Carolina rivalry will air in prime time on network television.
“It is an honor for the Duke-North Carolina game to be placed on this stage – for us, for the ACC and for college basketball,” said Duke head coach Mike Krzyzewski. “Hopefully the game will live up to that level of expectation.”
The Duke-North Carolina game highlights CBS Sports’ 30th consecutive season broadcasting college basketball. The entire 2010-11 CBS Sports college basketball schedule will be released later this year.
“Duke-North Carolina is one of the most intense rivalries in all of sports,” said Mike Aresco, Executive Vice President, Programming, CBS Sports. “A primetime telecast on CBS Sports will generate enormous interest across the nation as the ‘Road to the Final Four®’ heats up.”
Duke has won the last two meetings in the series, including an 82-50 win at Cameron Indoor Stadium in the regular season finale a year ago. The 32-point margin of victory was the second-largest for Duke in the series and third time the Blue Devils won by 30 or more points. Krzyzewski is 34-35 all-time against the Tar Heels, including a 19-9 mark since the 1999-00 season.
