PHILADELPHIA, Pa. - Junior Tanner Anderson finished at the top of the collegiate field in the men’s high jump to start day two at the 119th Penn  Relays Friday, April 26 in Philadelphia, Pa.  The Valdese, N.C., native cleared 7-2.5 (2.19) in the victory. Anderson almost went out at 7-1 (2.16) but cleared the height on his third attempt.  Freshman Carl Heinz finished eighth in the event, matching a collegiate-best  with 6-8.25 (2.04).

Duke’s top finish on the track came in the women’s sprint medley relay championship division where the women finished second overall, smashing the school record by over nine seconds.  Sophomores Baily Murphy  and Lauren Hansson ran the two hundred legs while sophomore Elizabeth Kerpon ran the 400 leg and senior Cydney Ross anchored in the 800 leg in the outstanding performance.

In the men’s discus, redshirt junior Austin Gamble set a new school record on his first throw of the day, earning a mark of 184-0 (56.10). The Weston, Fla., native finished fifth overall. In the men’s shot put, redshirt freshman Stephen Boals finished sixth in the college division with his best throw measuring 54-0 (16.46).

"A great day for Duke Friday at the Penn Relays with two school records and a win in the high jump," commented Director of Track & Field Norm Ogilvie . "The women's SMR second place was particularly impressive, as Duke beat everyone except prohibitive favorite LSU. Cydney Ross ran an awesome 2:03.8 anchor. Big toss for Austin Gamble in the discus and a great come-from-behind win for Tanner Anderson in the high jump with his highest jump so far this spring."

The men’s sprint medley relay team, consisting of senior Marcus Wright, junior Ben Raskin, redshirt junior Curtis Beach and freshman Michal Filipczak finished 18th overall with a time of 3:25.73.

The Penn Relays will conclude tomorrow at Franklin Field.  A full recap will be available at
