DURHAM, N.C. – Duke University women’s lacrosse head coach Kerstin Kimel has announced the addition of Molly O’Brien to the coaching staff. O’Brien will serve as a volunteer assistant coach with the Blue Devils, working with all facets of the program.

O’Brien comes to Durham from Bristol, Conn., where she was a content associate and production assistant with ESPN’s NASCAR Now. She also worked as a production assistant at ESPN before joining the NASCAR Now program.

“We are very excited to have Molly join our coaching staff,” Kimel said. “I have known Molly for a number of years watching her grow from local high school athlete to student-athlete at UConn into her most recent position at ESPN. She has participated in and coached at our camps over the years and I was thrilled when she decided to make the move into the coaching ranks this summer. I am confident that she will be an excellent addition to our program and staff and look forward to her starting with us later this month.”

A frequent member of the Blue Devils’ camp coaching staff in previous years, O’Brien has also served as a camp counselor at Georgetown and North Carolina. She spent one season as an assistant varsity coach at Conard High School in West Hartford, Conn., during the spring of 2012.

O’Brien lettered four years at Connecticut (2007-10), contributing to the Huskies’ attack. She totaled two goals and one assist in 26 games at UConn while also tallying one ground ball and two draw controls wins for her career. A member of the BIG EAST All-Academic team, she was the recipient of the Outstanding Senior Scholar Athlete Award and the Counseling Program for Intercollegiate Athletes (CPIA) Academic Excellence Award. O’Brien graduated in 2010 with a degree in communications.

A native of Cary, N.C., O'Brien completed her prep career at Cardinal Gibbons High School in Raleigh, where she holds school records for game, season and career goals, assists and points. She was tabbed an All-American by US Lacrosse in 2006.
