Women’s Tennis Continues Strong Play at SDSU Classic
SAN DIEGO, Calif. – As the second day of the San Diego State University Fall Classic came to a close, the Duke women’s tennis team continued its undefeated play as all three Blue Devils won their singles match and the lone doubles team advanced as well at the Aztec Tennis Center in San Diego, Calif.
In singles, 78th-ranked Marianne Jodoin coasted to a 6-4, 6-0 win over against Apichaya Runglerdkriangkrai of Pepperdine in the semifinals, while Annie Mulholland came back from falling in the first set, 6-0, to win 6-3, 6-4 over Yuki Chiang of Pepperdine. Jodoin and Mulholland will face each other in the finals of the red singles bracket on Sunday.
Duke freshman Alyssa Smith also advanced in singles play with a 6-0, 6-3 win against Michaela Capannolo of Pepperdine. She will go up against San Diego’s Anna Depenau in the finals of the black bracket on Sunday.
In doubles play, Smith/Jodoin earned an 8-1 victory over Jessica Perez and Elanor Grossman of Loyola Marymount in the semifinals of the red doubles bracket. The Duke tandem will face Kristin Buth and Laura Antonana Iriarte in the finals on Sunday.
