Duke Senior Andre Dawkins
“What you see out there is what happens in practice.  Both games came down to the wire.  Regardless of who you put on either team, it’s pretty balanced.  It’s good for everybody to compete every day in practice like that.  Every day somebody’s trying to beat you and beat you out for that spot, so it’s great.  I think it’ll really show once we start playing other teams, just how much we compete and how much better we make each other on a daily basis.”

“It feels great.  It was a lot of fun to be back out there in front of the crowd.  And the reception they gave me was great.  I’m just looking forward to the year.  I think we’ve got a really good team, and I think we have a chance to do a lot of good things.”

“I’m just happier.  I’m out here having fun playing the game again.  That’s the main thing - I can go out there and I can smile and have fun playing the game I love.”

On the Duke freshman class:
“This is a really good freshman class.  This freshman class has a chance to come in here and have a really good impact.  Obviously Jabari [Parker] is very talented, but Matt [Jones] and Semi [Ojeleye] are surprising people as well.  Semi’s a crazy athlete, and Matt has a really high basketball IQ, can really defend the ball, and obviously can really shoot.  I love their passion.  They come in every day ready to work and they listen.  They’re freshman, so there are things they have to learn, and they’ll only get better as long as we keep pushing them to get better and we keep helping them get better.  Their development is on us as much as it’s on them.”

Duke Redshirt Sophomore Rodney Hood
“It feels great just to be back out there and competing with these guys and being in front of the fans again.  They had a lot of energy out there tonight.  It was just fun playing with my teammates and letting the fans see us for the first time.”

“We have a lot of depth.  It’s going to be a tough call on who plays every night because we’ve got so many guys that can play.  It’s just going to be a fun team this year.  We’re going to play up and down, play fast, and it’s going to be exciting basketball.”

“It’s been about a year-and-a-half – since March of 2012 – since the last time I played against somebody else.  It’s going to be fun.  I can’t wait until the [Bowie State game on October 26th].”

Duke Freshman Jabari Parker
“Coach [Mike Krzyzewski] has really emphasized being on the glass.  You can make plays, get second-chance opportunities, or you can get a break on the defensive end.  I’m coming into my role, just being active.  I have to play the four position, so I have to play multiple spots and just have to be aggressive on both sides of the floor.”

On his coast-to-coast fast break basket:
“That’s what they want me to do, just start the break.  Like Coach [Mike Krzyzewski] said, he wants to play a really fast, up-tempo game and make the teams that we play against very uncomfortable when we go up-tempo.”

On the biggest adjustments from high school to college:
“I think it’s the transition of the game – it’s very fast.  I know coaches want it twice as fast as we usually do in practice, so that’s one of the key factors.  And also being aggressive – I think playing the center position when I was back in high school limited my versatility.  So now I just have to play a role of being everywhere on the floor just to fit my team and fit the style of the team.”
