DURHAM, N.C.— On Sunday following Duke’s victory over 10th-ranked California, the Blue Devils welcomed back two very special friends and supporters, Jim and Susan Sabiston. The program had a ceremony to officially name the women’s basketball lounge and locker room the “Sabiston Locker Room and Lounge.” The locker room was opened on Oct. 16, but due to personal reasons the family was not available for the naming ceremony until this past weekend.
“It’s been a long time coming to recognize Jim and Susan,” said Duke head coach Joanne P. McCallie. They’ve been great friends of this program for so long that they have this continuity that brings everything and everybody together. Not only their financial support, that’s one thing, but their friendship and love of women’s basketball and Duke women’s basketball is amazing. The care that they show each and every one of our players by getting to know them so well personally and supporting them is special. It was long overdue and it was a special day for us.”
The Blue Devils will next host Georgia Tech on Thursday, Dec. 6 at 7:00 p.m., in Cameron Indoor Stadium.
“Inspirational, motivational, encouraging and appreciated - all of these would describe how my wife and I felt on Sunday at the dedication of the Sabiston Locker Room and Lounge,” said Jim Sabiston. “It has been our privilege to get to know the staff and team of Duke women's basketball. Coach P and her staff are truly building something special for the future and Susan and I are proud to be a part of it.”
