Following two weeks of practice, head coach Joanne P. McCallie and the Duke women’s basketball team will begin its DWB European Tour on Monday, Aug. 13 as the Blue Devils will fly to Paris, France.

For continuous updates on the DWB European Tour, fans can head to, follow the Blue Devils on Twitter at Duke_WBB and go to the Duke women’s basketball page on Facebook.  Daily photos, videos and game recaps will be available.

Duke will arrive in France on Tuesday, Aug. 14 in the morning and will stay in Paris for three nights.  On Wednesday, the Blue Devils will play their first of three games against BC Franconville at Gymnase CSL. Franconville plays in the NF1 League in France and posted a 10-12 record this past season.

Duke will have a busy day on Friday, Aug. 17 as the team will travel to the Normandy region for a tour of D-Day landing and the Normandy Landing beaches. Following the tours, the Blue Devils will travel to Deauville, France for a game against Mondeville. Mondeville plays in the top league in France and notched a 15-11 record last year.

On Saturday, Duke will travel to Mulhouse, France, where Vernerey is from, for two days. The team will play its third and final game on Sunday against Geispolsheim. Geispolsheim finished with a 6-16 record in the NF1 League a year ago.

To close out the trip, the Blue Devils will travel to Cernobbio, Italy for the final two days, before heading home on Wednesday, Aug. 22.

Duke will feature a roster of 13 student-athletes on the trip to France and Italy with only eight expecting to play due to injuries.  Seeing action on the tour will be Vernerey, Chelsea Gray, Haley Peters, Tricia Liston, Ka’lia Johnson and Jenna Frush along with freshmen Alexis Jones and Sierra Moore.   The five injured Duke players include Chloe Wells (leg), Richa Jackson (knee), Elizabeth Williams (leg), Amber Henson (knee), Katie Heckman (questionable - knee).

Duke is coming off posting a 27-6 overall record in 2011-12, advanced to the NCAA Tournament Elite Eight and won the ACC regular season title with a 15-1 record.

Vernerey, who will be the lone senior on the 2012-13 Blue Devil roster, is from Alsace, France and attended the Mulhouse school. She was the captain of the U-16 and U-18 French National Teams. At Duke, Vernerey has played in 105 games, averaged 6.0 points and 4.0 rebounds. She was named a Capital One Academic All-District III selection as a junior.
