MULOHOUSE, France – The Blue Devils woke up on Saturday and had breakfast in the hotel before traveling on a long bus ride to visit the Vernerey Family. After more than eight hours, Duke arrived at Allison’s house at around 6:30 p.m.
With Allison’s father, Jacques, her sister, Chloe, and many family and friends the Blue Devils were treated to a night of great food, singing, learning about the culture of France and some other competition as well.
Everyone had heard about the barn that Allison grew up playing basketball in and now her teammates were able to see it in person. Along with a hoop, they had dart boards, ping pong table, badminton and a rope to climb. Some of the team members had some good badminton games, played horse at the hoop and played darts.
Prior to, during and after dinner the Blue Devils learned some of the French songs that are sung in around dinner. The meal was incredible from the cheese appetizers to the main course and dessert. The main course was a mixture of potatoes in which you heat up cheese, meats, egg and put over your potatoes. Overall, the meal was probably the best we have had on the trip so far. It was great to have a true French meal that we will all try to duplicate in the future.
After dinner and before dessert, the Blue Devils took a little walk around her house to a pond. It was great to see the area she lives in, which has a lot of crops and beautiful landscaped houses.
Following dinner and fellowship, the team headed to the hotel in Mulhouse to get checked in the hotel. On Sunday, Duke will play its final contest of the DWB European Tour against Geispolshiem BBC at 4:00 p.m.
