DURHAM, N.C. – The Associated Press released its 2013-14 preseason women’s basketball poll on Friday with the Blue Devils tabbed No. 2 overall, which is the highest preseason ledger since the 2005-06 campaign.

Duke has been preseason ranked in the top one or two of the Associated Press rankings on three other occasions – No. 1 in 2002-03, No. 1 in 2005-06 and No. 2 in 2003-04.

The Blue Devils received 605 points and are ranked only behind defending NCAA Champion Connecticut, who received all 36 first place votes.  Rounding out the top 10 was Stanford at No. 3, Tennessee, Louisville, Notre Dame, Kentucky, Maryland, California and Baylor.

The Blue Devils, who return all five starters and its top seven scorers from a year ago, will face five of the top 10 teams in the Associated Press ledger, including ninth-ranked California in the season opener on Nov. 10 at 6:00 p.m., on ESPNU.

Closing out the top 25 was Oklahoma, North Carolina, Penn State, Dayton, LSU, Texas A&M, Nebraska, Purdue, Colorado, Michigan State, Oklahoma State, South Carolina, Iowa State, Georgia and Gonzaga.

Overall, Duke features eight ranked opponents on the 2013-14 schedule – Connecticut (1), Notre Dame (6), Kentucky (7), Maryland (8), California (9), Oklahoma (11), North Carolina (12) and Purdue (18).  Six of the contests will be played on the road.

The Blue Devils will close exhibition action on Sunday, Nov. 3 with a contest against Coker College out of Hartsville, S.C.  Coker is coming off an 18-11 overall record in 2012-13, under the direction of head coach Jenny Finora.

The Lady Cobras feature Durham, N.C., product Hailey Yohn, who is a 5-10 junior guard that averaged 6.8 points last year.  Coker returns nine letterwinners from 2012-13 and welcomes nine newcomers to the roster this season as the Lady Cobras enter play in the South Atlanta Conference.
