Alexis Jones and Tricia Liston were two of 10 student-athletes added to the “Wade Watch” list on Monday by the Women’s Basketball Coaches Association (WBCA) and the Wade Trophy Coalition.DURHAM, N.C. – Duke University standouts
The 10 newcomers to the list include Jones, Liston, Tiffany Bias of Oklahoma State, Hallie Christofferson of Iowa State, Christina Foggie of Vanderbilt, Markeisha Gatling of N.C. State, Dearica Hamby of Wake Forest, Natasha Howard of Florida State, Jewell Loyd of Notre Dame, and Tiffany Mitchell of South Carolina.
The list now includes 35 members and four are Blue Devils as Chelsea Gray and Elizabeth Williams were selected to the preseason list.
Liston, who is out of River Forest, Ill., has burst on the national scene in 2013-14 as the 6-1 guard is averaging a career-best 18.4 points, 5.7 rebounds and 1.6 assists for the third-ranked Blue Devils. Liston has totaled 13 games of 20 or more points, which ranks second in the ACC and is third nationally with a 49.2 three-point field goal percentage.
Her 18.4 scoring average ranks sixth in the ACC and is the highest for a Blue Devil since Alana Beard averaged 19.3 points in 2003-04. In ACC games, Liston is averaging 19.9 points, 5.8 rebounds and 2.2 assists, while hitting 58.0 percent from the field and 54.5 percent from downtown. She ranks fourth in scoring, third in field goal percentage, 12th in free throw percentage (83.7), second in three-point field goal percentage (52.1) and tied fifth in three-point field goals made (2.5).
A product of Irving, Texas, Jones has averaged 13.4 points, 7.3 assists, 3.3 rebounds and 2.7 steals since All-America Chelsea Gray was injured on Jan. 12 against Boston College. In two different games, Jones posted ACC-best marks of 15 assists against Florida State and 10 steals versus Clemson, which also tied school records.
The 2012 ACC Tournament MVP and Freshman All-America, Jones ranks second in the ACC with a 5.0 per game average on the year and is also second in league games with a 6.3 average. Jones is one of the top playmakers in the nation even as a sophomore.
The Wade Trophy Coalition presents The Wade Trophy to the nation’s most outstanding NCAA® Division I women’s basketball player each year – one who not only excels athletically but also serves as a positive role model both on and off the court. The acclaimed Wade Watch list, from which The Wade Trophy recipient is chosen, consists of players selected on the basis of game and season statistics, leadership, character, effect on their team and overall playing ability.
The Wade Watch list will be trimmed to 12 finalists in mid-March. The Wade Trophy Coalition will officially announce The Wade Trophy winner at the fourth annual WBCA Awards Show on Monday, April 7, which is part of the 2014 WBCA National Convention, held in conjunction with the NCAA® Women’s Final Four®, in Nashville.
