ATLANTA, Ga. – Former Duke University center Alison Bales has re-signed with the Atlanta Dream of the WNBA.
Bales, a 6-7 center, was a valuable reserve for the Dream last season. She appeared in all 34 games, including three starts, and averaged 15.6 minutes per game. Bales was the team’s second-leading shot blocker (1.15 bpg) and added 3.9 points and 3.8 rebounds per game.
Originally selected by the Indiana Fever with the ninth pick in the 2007 WNBA Draft, Bales was traded to the Dream mid-season in 2008. She was dealt to the Phoenix Mercury in 2009 and then re-joined the Dream last season.
Bales left her mark at Duke University, helping the Blue Devils to the national championship game as a junior. She finished her collegiate career as the school’s leader in blocked shots (434) and also set the NCAA record for most blocks in the NCAA Tournament (30). Over her final three years at Duke, she swatted over 100 shots in each of those seasons, including a school-record 151 in 2006-07.
The Atlanta Dream is the defending Women’s National Basketball Association’s (WNBA) Eastern Conference Champion. The team tips-off the 2011 season at home on June 5, versus the New York Liberty at Philips Arena. The team enters its fourth season this summer as part of the WNBA, the world’s longest-running women’s professional sports league.
