Noting Duke...
Duke has won 10 straight games in the month of November ... the Blue Devils return 59.8 percent of its three-pointers hit a season ago led by Chelsea Gray (33), Tricia Liston (28) and Shay Selby (23) ... Duke is the reigning back-to-back ACC Champions and have won a total of seven ACC Championships.

A Look At BYU...
BYU enters Friday’s contest following an appearance in the Sweet Sixteen of the WNIT a year ago while also capturing its third MWC regular season title and notching an overall record of 25-9 during the 2010-11 season. The Cougars return two starters and seven letterwinners under head coach Jeff Judkins, who is in his 11th year at BYU.
In its first exhibition game this year, the Cougars defeated Western Oregon, 90-61, behind freshman Lexi Eaton’s 14-point performance. BYU also recorded a 91-54 exhibition victory over Dixie State, with senior Dani Peterson and sophomore Stephanie Vermunt tallying 15 points each.

The Series With BYU...
Duke and BYU will meet for only the third time in school history.  In last year’s contest, the Blue Devils claimed a 69-54 victory in Cameron Indoor Stadium. The only other meeting between the two schools was an 80-60 win for Duke on Jan. 10, 1987, in Cameron.

Duke Versus the West Coast Conference...

The Blue Devils own an all-time record of 6-1 against West Coast Conference teams -- Loyola Marymount (1-0), Pepperdine (1-0), San Diego (2-0), San Francisco (0-1) and BYU (2-0).

Storylines/Other Blue Devil Notes...
    • Duke’s eight returning letterwinners own 78 career starts, while 2011 graduates Jasmine Thomas, Krystal Thomas and Karima Christmas totaled 237 starts over the last four years.
    • The Blue Devils feature nine freshmen and sophomores on the roster in 2011-12, which is the most since Duke had 10 on the roster in 2000-01.
    • The average age of Duke’s squad this season is 19 years old.  This is the youngest since the 2000-01 squad that had an average age of 18.2.
    • Over the last 11 years, Duke owns the third-most wins in the nation -- Connecticut (378), Tennessee (343) and Duke (334).

Freshmen Starting...
Freshman Elizabeth Williams could become just the 13th player in Head Coach Joanne P. McCallie’s 20 years to start her first collegiate game when the season starts on Friday.  She would join teammate Chloe Wells  as she started her first game a year ago.  In Duke’s history, only 22 freshmen have started their first collegiate contest.

Williams Shines in Exhibition Games...
Blue Devil freshman Elizabeth Williams was solid in the two exhibition games averaging 19.0 points, 7.0 rebounds, 6.0 blocks, 3.5 steals and 1.5 assists as she started both contests.  She led Duke with a 28.5 minutes per game average, but struggled shooting from the field with a 44.1 field goal percentage.

Duke Boasts Young Squad...
Duke returns only two starters -- Haley Peters and Chelsea Gray -- for the 2011-12 campaign but welcomes back eight student-athletes who started at least two contests from a year ago.
The Blue Devils feature only two seniors and one junior to go along with nine freshmen and sophomores marking the youngest squad in Coach P’s 20 years as a head coach.

Duke Returns Zero Double-Digit Scorers...
For the first time in school history, the Blue Devils will open a season with zero returning double-digit scorers in 2011-12.  The highest returning scorer for Duke is Chelsea Gray with an 8.7 per game average.
In the ACC, Duke, Clemson, Virginia, North Carolina and Virginia Tech all return zero double-figure scorers.

Breaking Down the Exhibitions...
Duke knocked off Pfeiffer (112-27) and Lander (79-52) in two exhibition games.  Three Blue Devils averaged double-figure scoring in those contests -- Elizabeth Williams (19.0), Chloe Wells (16.5) and Chelsea Gray (16.5).  Haley Peters led Duke with 15 rebounds, while Gray had team-bests in assists (13) and steals (10).  Williams swatted 12 shots and notched 11 offensive rebounds.
As a team, Duke hit 49.7 percent from the field and 35.7 percent from downtown.  The Blue Devils hit only 56.8 percent from the free throw line.

Blue Devils Preseason Ranked No. 8...
Duke has been preseason ranked No. 8 nationally in both the Associated Press and USA Today ESPN Division I Coaches polls to open the season.  It marks the 12th year in a row that Duke has been preseason ranked in the top 10 by both polls.
