GREENSBORO, N.C. – The ACC has released the All-ACC Academic Team for the 2012-13 campaign and for the fifth consecutive year, the Duke women’s basketball team led the league with five selections.  Receiving accolades were Alexis Jones, Chelsea Gray, Haley Peters, Tricia Liston and Allison Vernerey.

Following Duke’s five selections was N.C. State with three and Maryland with two.  Boston College, Clemson, Georgia Tech, Miami and Virginia Tech each had one representative on the team.

Receiving honors for the fourth straight year, Vernerey became Duke’s first four-time All-ACC Academic team selection in school history.  She also joins only Marissa Kastanek as the only two student-athletes in ACC women’s basketball history to be selected to the All-ACC Academic team on four occasions.  A native of Alsace, France, Vernerey has seen action in 31 games this season and started six contests.  She is averaging 1.1 blocks on the year, while scoring 3.2 points a game.  Vernerey is obtaining an Economics degree.

A product of Red Bank, N.J., Peters was named to the team for the third consecutive season, after averaging 12.1 points, a team-high 7.3 rebounds and 2.0 assists on the year.  The 6-3 forward is majoring in Political Science along with a minor in English.  She was a second team All-ACC selection this season and earned All-ACC Tournament first team accolades this past weekend.

Liston received All-ACC Academic Team honors for the second straight year and is coming off earning second team All-ACC Tournament honors on Sunday.  On the year, Liston has drained a school-record 70 three-pointers and has averaged 13.1 points and 4.9 rebounds.  Liston, who is from River Forest, Ill., is majoring in Psychology, while obtaining a markets and management certificate.

Receiving academic honors for the first time in her career, Gray had her season come to an end on Feb. 13 against Wake Forest as she suffered a dislocated kneecap.  Gray, who is a two-time First Team All-ACC selection out of Manteca, Calif., was averaging 13.1 points, 5.6 assists, 5.4 rebounds and 3.7 steals heading into game against the Demon Deacons.  Gray is majoring in Sociology along with a minor in theater studies and a markets and management certificate.

Coming off earning ACC Tournament MVP accolades over the weekend, Jones is averaging 17.2 points, 6.2 assists, 5.3 rebounds and 1.0 steals over the last six contests.  A product of Irving, Texas, Jones notched a career-high 24 points, eight rebounds, four steals and three assists in the ACC title game against 15th-ranked North Carolina.  Jones is undecided on a major.

N.C. State’s Kastanek was named the ACC Scholar-Athlete of the Year.

To be eligible for consideration for the academic squad, a student-athlete must have earned a 3.0 grade point average for the previous semester and maintained a 3.0 cumulative average during her academic career.

Duke is coming off notching its eighth ACC Championship over the weekend with a 92-73 victory over 15th-ranked North Carolina.  The Blue Devils improved to 30-2 overall marking their 10th 30-win season over the last 13 years.
