INDIANAPOLIS, Ind. – Junior diver Nick McCrory earned the third All-America accolades of his career on the 1-meter springboard Thursday, finishing second in the event final on the opening day of the 2013 NCAA Division I Men’s Swimming and Diving Championships. Following the first day of action, Duke is in 19th place in the team standings with the 17 points earned by McCrory.

After totaling 360.35 points to finish fifth in the preliminary round, McCrory advanced to the 1-meter springboard championship final for the third time in as many appearances at the NCAA Championships, which are being contested through Saturday, March 30 at the IU Natatorium and the IUPUI Sports Complex in Indianapolis.

In the championship final, McCrory earned a season-best 436.60 points to take second behind only Stanford’s Kristian Ipsen, marking the Chapel Hill, N.C., native’s highest career finish at the 1-meter height in an NCAA Championships meet. He received an award of 76.50 on the first dive of his list, a forward 3 ½ somersault in the tuck position, and then matched that score in the third round on a reverse 1 ½ somersault with 2 ½ twists.

Senior Jordan Long made his NCAA Championships debut Thursday, joining McCrory in the trials of the 1-meter competition. Long concluded his list with 221.35 points to finish 34th, and his highest-scoring dive came in the opening round, when he earned a score of 53.30 on a forward 2 ½ somersault in the pike position.

With seven All-America accolades for his career, McCrory will look to add to that total Friday, March 29 in the 3-meter springboard competition. Both McCrory and Long will be among the field, as trials get underway at 11 a.m. Live results will be available at while live video of Friday evening’s finals will be streamed on ESPN3.
