DURHAM, N.C. – Following a torn ACL and two ensuing arthroscopic knee surgeries, redshirt freshman Katie Heckman, along with the Duke University medical staff, has decided to end her collegiate basketball career and accept a medical hardship.

Heckman, who is out of Centennial, Colo., suffered a torn ACL in preseason practice last season and never appeared in a contest at Duke due to the injury.

A Second Team All-State, First Team All-League and All-City honoree as a senior at Regis Jesuit H.S., where she averaged 10.8 points, 6.7 rebounds, 2.5 steals and 1.9 blocks.

Heckman will remain in school at Duke to complete her degree.

The third-ranked Blue Devils will next host Virginia on Thursday, Jan. 16 at 6:30 p.m., which will be aired live on RSN-TV.
