DURHAM, N.C. - Black Team start Dalton Brown and rookie reliever Nick Hendrix combined for a three-hit shutout Thursday as Black blanked the Blue Team 1-0 to even the Duke baseball team's best-of-seven Fall World Series at 2-2.

Buoyed by stellar infield defense, Brown posted four strong innings, matching zeros with fellow sophomore and Blue starting pitcher Andrew Istler. Istler was equaling effective, allowing just one hit and two walks over four innings.

The game appeared headed for extra innings as junior Mark Lumpa retired the first two batters in the top of the sixth. Junior Mike Rosenfeld and senior Jeff Kremer both singled to set the stage for sophomore Chris Marconcini, who laced a 0-0 fastball to left field for the two-out, RBI single. The two-out RBI was Marconcini's third in the past two games.

The run proved to be enough for Hendrix as the rookie stranded the tying run at third base in both the sixth and seventh innings. In his inaugural Blue vs. Black World Series, Hendrix has pitched six strong innings, giving up just one earned run.

Marconcini went 2-for-2 at the plate with a walk and also made an RBI-saving catch in right field to lead the Black Team. Jordan Betts and Reed Anthes each recorded hits for the Blue squad.

The two teams return to action Friday morning at 8 a.m., at Jack Coombs Field in an important game five matchup.
