DURHAM, N.C. – The Black team defeated the Blue squad, 6-3, Tuesday evening to stake a 3-1 series lead in the Duke baseball team’s annual Blue vs. Black World Series.

Blue jumped out to an early 1-0 lead in the first, but Black scored three runs in the third to take a lead it would not relinquish the rest of the way.

Redshirt senior Ryan Deitrich reached base three times to lead Blue. The Collegeville, Pa., native doubled in the first inning and scored the first run of the game on a Chris Marconcini RBI single.

Blue’s advantage would not last as Black went on top in the third, scoring three runs on a pair of groundouts and a Mike Rosenfeld RBI single.

Black piled on two more runs in the top of the fifth. An RBI double off the bat of senior Jordan Betts ignited the Black team’s offense.

The Blue squad cut the deficit to three runs in the bottom of the fifth, pushing across a pair of runs. However, RHP Conner Stevens got Aaron Cohn to ground out to end the Blue threat. Blue would not come any closer the rest of the way as Black secured its third straight victory.

Blue RHP Dalton Brown turned in a strong performance, giving up just one hit. LHP Chris Kono countered for the Black team, posting three strikeouts to capture the win. Junior right-hander Sarkis Ohanian struck out three batters over two innings of work to pick up his second save of the series.

Blue and Black meet for game five Friday, Nov. 1 at 3 p.m. from Jack Coombs Field.
