DURHAM, N.C. – After playing three seasons at Holy Cross, senior left-hander Chris Kono enrolled in Duke’s Fuqua School of Business. In his final season of eligibility, Kono appeared in 16 games with the Blue Devils and compiled a 6.59 ERA over 13.2 innings of work with 13 strikeouts. He completed his graduate coursework and received his Masters of Management Studies degree this spring. recently caught up with the Greenwich, Conn., native. What are your three favorite things about being a Duke student-athlete?
Kono: The camaraderie. There’re some very talented people at Duke, and being around the guys and the team has been an awesome experience. Pride … Duke’s name is worldwide, so playing here has been an awesome experience. The competition obviously in the ACC, it’s been tough and really a dream come true to play here. What’s your favorite on-field memory?
CK: I think sweeping UNC. I’ve only been here one year, but these seniors… I don’t think they’ve won one game against UNC. So it’s cool taking three. What’s your favorite off-field memory?
CK: Probably the people I’ve met. It’s been a really cool program, the best program, so a lot of diversity there. From a baseball standpoint, these guys have been awesome …  just hanging out with them in sort of G-rated settings. What are three foods you can’t live without?
CK: Cheese, chocolate and ice cream. My one favorite cheese is Dunbarton Blue. Cow’s milk from Wisconsin. I’m from Connecticut, but thank God I’ve been exposed to this cheese. It’s life changing. What are your three favorite restaurants in Durham?
CK: I mean Whole Foods is one of my favorite restaurants. They have a good cheese selection. There’s one in Raleigh, which is close enough so I’m going to count it, it’s Beasley’s Chicken & Honey. I love that place. And a Durham one, I’ll go with Mateo Tapas. What are three things you would do on an off day from school, practice, etc.?
CK: I’d golf. I’d go on a cheese hunt. Honestly, I’d hangout with the guys on the team.
