DURHAM, N.C. – A two-year captain and one of the top catchers in the ACC, redshirt senior Mike Rosenfeld is set to return for his final year of eligibility in 2015. A Johnny Bench Award nominee, he’s a career .289 hitter with 22 doubles, seven triples and four home runs. The All-ACC Academic Team and ACC Academic Honor Roll selection majored in psychology with a minor in economics. caught up with the Mamaroneck, N.Y., native. What are the three best things about being a Duke student-athlete?
Rosenfeld: The Duke student-athlete community in itself is very united. I like that. [We] pride ourselves on competing at Duke. Most other schools aren’t nearly as academically competitive. Similarly, competing in the classroom I think is special. It really brings out the best in us off the field. What is your favorite on-field memory?
MR: Just that full circle we made. Winning that first game against Richmond at Coombs as freshmen, then playing Richmond again [in the final home game as seniors]. Just that in itself is incredible. I know it’s not really a memory, but the full circle that we made I thought was pretty awesome. What’s your best off-field memory?
MR: Great memories were made at our apartment. Me, Berezo and Jordan … a lot of great memories made off the field. What motivates you to perform?
MR: My own persistent drive. Matt Berezo. And my family. What are three foods you can’t live without?
MR: Recently discovered Dame’s Chicken and Waffles, pretty incredible. Pizza in general. And I love lobster … I could probably live without it, but I still love it. What are three things you’d like to do in the next 10 years?
MR: I’d like to sky dive. I’d like to drive a racecar around a race track going at high speeds. And travel Europe.
