FREIMAN AT IT AGAIN

The Triple-A Sacramento River Cats down the Iowa Cubs 9-4, thanks in large part to Nate Freiman. Freiman added to the River Cats' advantage with a deep two-run homer to leftcenter. The bomb was the second in as many nights for the former Blue Devil, and 11th of the season. He finished the night 2-for-4 with a double, a home run, two runs scored, two RBI and a walk. As of Saturday, Freiman leads the Pacific Coast League with 61 RBI.

BETTS HOMERS IN PROFESSIONAL DEBUT

The Lowell Spinners took the lead in the bottom half of the fourth inning againt the Vermont Lake Monsters on the first professional hit of Jordan Betts' career, a one-out solo home run to rightcenter. The Betts home run was not enough, however, as the Spinners ultimately fell 6-4.

BURKE SOLID IN RELIEF AGAINST SALT LAKE CITY

Right-hander Greg Burke turned in a solid 4.1 innings of work in the Colorado Sky Sox 7-5 loss to the Salt Lake City Bees. Burke came in relief to get the final out of the first. He allowed just one run on a solo homer in the fourth in one of his longest outings of the season.

NY NATIVE STROMAN DEBUTS AT YANKEE STADIUM

Marcus Stroman, who grew up about an hour away from New York City, allowed two runs over 3.2 innings in his fourth big league start and first in Yankee Stadium. The Yankees were able to grind out at bats versus the former Blue Devil, who tossed 98 pitches in his shortest MLB start.

"[Stroman] debuted at Yankee Stadium, and they gave him a typical Yankee effort," Blue Jays manager John Gibbons said. "They grinded him. It's not an easy place to pitch. I thought he battled, it was a close game, we were in that thing, we just couldn't mount any offence whatsoever."

The tone was set in the first inning, when Yankees leadoff man Brett Gardner saw 12 pitches before eventually grounding out to second base. Stroman required 37 pitches to get through two, and he came within one of doubling that mark during a third inning which saw him face seven batters.

The only major mistake Stroman made also came in that third inning on a 2-1 pitch to Gardner. New York's left fielder lifted a fly ball to right field, and in a lot of ballparks, it likely would have gone foul, but with the short porch at Yankee Stadium, it bounced off the foul pole for a two-run shot

Stroman returned for the fourth inning but was lifted with a pair of runners on and two outs. He had thrown 98 pitches by that point, which set a career high. Another major reason for the high pitch count was that New York fouled off 25 pitches.

"They were just fouling off good pitches," said Stroman, who grew up in nearby Medford, N.Y., and had his family in attendance. "I was trying to be in the zone, for the most part, even with my strikeout pitches, and right from the first batter, Gardner fouled off a bunch of pitches. It's one of those days where my pitch count got driven up by deep counts, and I fell behind. But I tried to battle and did the best job I could."

FREIMAN DOES IT AGAIN

The River Cats scored the only run they'd need in a 3-0 shutout victory over Round Rock when Nate Freiman hit a solo blast off Express starter Justin Germano in the top of the fourth. Freiman finished 1-for-3 with a run, two RBI and a walk. The home run was his 12th of the season and third in the past four games.
