WIN OVER NORTH CAROLINA: With its 33-30 win over North Carolina, the Blue Devils snap an eight-game losing streak to the Tar Heels … the win is Duke’s first over North Carolina since a 30-22 decision in Chapel Hill in 2003 … the win is Duke’s first against the Tar Heels in Durham since 1988 … North Carolina continues to lead the series, 58-37-4.

DUKE STARTS 6-2: By defeating the Tar Heels, Duke improves to 6-2 on the year, marking the best eight-game opening to a season since the 1994 squad started 7-1 … also matches the third-best eight-game opening to a season since the inception of the ACC in 1953 (7-1 in 1960 & 1994; 6-1-1 in 1953; 6-2 in 1962, 1988 & 2012)

BOWL ELIGIBILITY: With the win, Duke becomes the third team from the ACC to reach bowl eligibility in 2012, joining Clemson and Florida State … The Blue Devils last bowl appearance came on Jan. 2, 1995 with a 34-20 loss to Wisconsin in the Hall of Fame Bowl in Tampa, Fla. … Duke has played in eight bowls all-time: Rose (twice), Orange (twice), Sugar, Cotton, All American & Hall of Fame … Three bowl games were represented at the game – Russell Athletic, Belk & Sun

WINNING LATE:
It was Duke’s first win in the final minute since beating Virginia 55-48 on a 35-yard Desmond Scott touchdown run Nov. 6, 2010. It was the Blue Devils’ second final-minute win under David Cutcliffe

EIGHT-GAME POINT TOTAL: With 33 points on the night, Duke pushed its season total to 280 … the 280 points through eight weeks marks the second-highest total to begin a season in school history and the highest since scoring 308 points in the first eight weeks of 1943

HOME GAME SCORING: With 33 points on the night, Duke has now scored 213 points in its five home games in 2012, the highest five-game home total in school history

CAPACITY CROWD: The capacity crowd of 33,941 was the largest at Wallace Wade Stadium since Duke hosted Alabama Sept. 18, 2010, also its last capacity crowd. Duke has played 16 home games since that game

TOTAL OFFENSE: Duke’s 510 total yards marked its highest output of the year and second 500-yard game of the season … the previous high was 500 yards against Memphis

TEAM RUSHING:
Duke totaled 234 rushing yards on 53 carries, its highest total under David Cutcliffe and first 200-yard rushing game since running for 230 yards against Virginia Nov. 6, 2010. The 53 attempts also marked a season high

BALANCED RUSHING: Duke got 99 rushing yards on 15 carries by Josh Snead, 74 yards on 22 carries by Jela Duncan and 64 yards on 11 carries by Juwan Thompson, the first time this season that three Duke players have rushed for 50 yards each and the first time that three have reached double digits in carries

SEASON-LOW PUNTS: Duke punted just twice, its lowest total this season

SEASON-HIGH FIRST DOWNS: Duke recorded a season-high 28 first downs

DE KENNY ANUNIKE: Recorded a career-high eight tackles

QB ANTHONY BOONE: First-quarter rushing touchdown of two yards is his second of the season and the sixth of his career

LB KYLER BROWN:
Recorded two pass breakups after entering the game with one in his career … recorded a career-high six tackles for the fourth time this season

NG JAMAL BRUCE:
The fumble recovery in the first quarter was the first of his career

CB LEE BUTLER: First-quarter kickoff return of 28 yards was Duke’s longest of the season to that point and longest of his career; eclipsed both those marks with 31-yard return in fourth quarter … first-quarter forced fumble was his second of the year and his career … matched his career high with two pass breakups … recorded five tackles

S JORDON BYAS:
Set career high with 12 tackles, sharing the team lead with Walt Canty … reached double figures in the tackle column for the third time in the past four games … after missing the first three games while recovering from knee surgery, has posted an average of 9.6 tackles per game … carded one tackle for loss to push streak of consecutive games with at least one TFL to four … Forced the fumble that North Carolina recovered for its go-ahead touchdown in fourth quarter, his first forced fumble of the year and the third of his career

S WALT CANTY: Finished the game with 12 tackles, sharing the team lead with Jordon Byas … reached double digits in the tackle column for the fourth time this year and the 10th time in his career … performance marks second double figure tackle performance against North Carolina (had 11 tackles vs. UNC in 2010) … has posted double figures in eight of his last 16 games dating back to the 2011 season and during that 16-game stretch has averaged 9.94 tackles per game … recorded one pass breakup, his second of the year and eighth of his career … pushed his team-leading tackle total to 74 through eight games in 2012

CB ROSS COCKRELL: Recorded a career-high two tackles for loss … in three career games vs. North Carolina, has recorded 23 tackles and one interception … logged one pass breakup, his 12th in the last 10 games … with 26 career pass breakups, ranks eighth on Duke’s all-time list, one breakup shy of Matt Daniels in seventh

WR JAMISON CROWDER:
Finished the game with five receptions for 41 yards and a touchdown … Scored the game-winning touchdown on a five-yard reception with 13 seconds remaining … in two career games against North Carolina, has compiled nine receptions for 141 yards and two touchdowns

RB JELA DUNCAN:
Rushed two yards for touchdown in second quarter, his third score of the year and third in last four games

LB C.J. FRANCE: Recorded his third pass breakup of the season and the third of his career

K ROSS MARTIN: Totaled 15 points on four field goals and three PATs … set a Duke freshman record with four field goals (28, 30, 20 and 43 yards), becoming the first Duke player with four field goals in a game since Will Snyderwine against Virginia Tech Oct. 3, 2009 … set the Duke freshman record for points in a game, topping the 14 scored by Brandon Connette against Virginia in 2010 … pushed his team-leading point total to 74 … extended own single-season scoring record for Duke freshmen to 74 points … extended own single-season field goals made record for Duke freshmen to 14 … 43-yard field goal in fourth quarter set a new career high … Tied for sixth all-time at Duke in single-season field goals made, alongside Tom Cochran (1995), Sims Lenhardt (1999) and Brent Garber (2002) … tied for sixth in single-season PATs made with 32

DE JORDAN DEWALT-ONDIJO:
Third-quarter sack was second in last four games and gave him 2.5 this season and 3.5 in his career

TE DAVID REEVES: First-quarter catch of 20 yards was longest of his career

QB SEAN RENFREE: Completed 23-of-36 passes for 276 yards and one touchdown … pushed his career passing yardage total to 8,145 to climb to 17th place on the ACC’s all-time list, 245 yards shy of Florida State’s Chris Rix (8,390) … increased his career pass completion total to 765 and remained in ninth place on the ACC’s all-time chart, seven completions shy of Boston College’s Matt Ryan (772) … has thrown 17 touchdown passes in his last nine games … extends own Duke record for consecutive games with at least 10 pass completions to 31 … has now completed 20 or more passes in seven consecutive games, bettering his top streak set in 2011 against Boston College (41), Tulane (21), FIU (28), Florida State (26) & Wake Forest (28) … has now thrown for 150 or more yards in 24 consecutive games and 29 of the last 31 games dating back to the beginning of the 2010 season … has now thrown for 200 or more yards in 25 career games to equal the top total in Duke history held by Ben Bennett … with one touchdown pass, pushed his career total to 43 to move into fifth place on Duke’s all-time chart, passing Dave Brown (42)

WR DESMOND SCOTT: Caught three passes for 38 yards … extended his streak of consecutive games with at least one pass reception to 34, matching the fourth-longest streak in Duke history trailing Conner Vernon (43; active), Donovan Varner (37), Scottie Montgomery (35) & Randy Cuthbert (34) … active streak is the seventh-longest among active players nationally … pushed his streak of consecutive games with at least two catches to 16 … has now caught two or more passes in 30 games, marking the eighth-highest career total in Duke history

RB JOSH SNEAD: Rushed for a career-high 99 yards on 15 carries … it was the highest rushing total for a Duke player this season ... narrowly missed becoming the first Duke player to rush for 100 yards since Desmond Scott ran for 122 yards Sept. 11, 2010 at Wake Forest

WR CONNER VERNON: Finished the day with six receptions for 124 yards … with 35-yard reception in the first quarter, Vernon became Duke’s all-time leader in pass receiving yards, passing Clarkston Hines (3,318)  … now has 3,424 career receiving yards … moved into second place on the ACC’s all-time chart for career receiving yardage, passing Hines and N.C. State’s Tory Holt … is now just 93 yards short of the ACC career mark of 3,517 held by Florida State’s Peter Warrick … increased his ACC career record total to 249 receptions … extended own school record for most games with two or more receptions with 42 … extended his own school record streak of consecutive games with at least one reception to 43 – also the longest active streak in the nation – and is now two games shy of the ACC record of 45 held by North Carolina’s Corey Holliday … extended his streak of consecutive games with at least two receptions to 23 – the third-longest streak in Duke history behind Hines (28) and Varner (27) … the 100-yard receiving game marks his third of the year and the 13th of his career … moved into a tie for seventh place with Georgia Tech’s Calvin Johnson on the ACC’s career list for 100-yard receiving games (13)
