DURHAM, N.C. – Head coach Chris Pollard has announced the Duke baseball team’s upcoming fall schedule, which includes an exhibition game against the Czech Republic National Team as well as the program’s annual Fall World Series.
The Blue Devils will host the Czech Republic National Team Thursday, Oct. 10 at Jack Coombs Field with the first pitch slated for 5 p.m. The event is open to the public and admission to the game is free. The Blue Devil Network will also stream live video of the contest via GoDuke.com with Chris Edwards on the call.
The exhibition game is part of the Czech Republic National Team’s USA Tour, which runs from Oct. 3-15. The Czech Republic is set to play eight exhibition games in North Carolina, including contests at Campbell, UNC Wilmington, NC State and East Carolina.
Duke’s Fall World Series, the team’s annual intra-squad competition, begins Oct. 25 at Jack Coombs Field. The seven-game series takes place over the next 10 days and concludes Sunday, Nov. 3.
The Blue Devils return 24 letterwinners, including seven position starters and 14 pitchers. Second team All-ACC selections Jordan Betts and Andy Perez both return for the Blue Devils, along with all three weekend starters – Robert Huber, Trent Swart and Drew Van Orden – from a season ago.
Ten newcomers will also step onto the field for Duke in 2014. Redshirt seniors Ryan Deitrich and Chris Kono come to Durham from Pennsylvania and Holy Cross, respectively, while redshirt sophomore Cameron Neal arrives from Howard College. The Blue Devils also welcomed seven true freshmen in Karl Blum, Bailey Clark, J.R. Holloway, Kevin Lewallyn, Cristian Perez, David Williams and James Ziemba.
