DURHAM, N.C. – One of four highly touted pitchers in Duke baseball’s 2014 recruiting class, left-hander Mitch Stallings is set to join the Blue Devils next fall after signing a National Letter of Intent.

“We heard great things about Mitch throughout the 2013 spring and summer seasons,” said head coach Chris Pollard. “But we were blown away by his performance at our camp in late August.”

Rated among the top 1,000 overall prospects and top 150 left-handed pitchers nationally by Perfect Game, Stallings comes to Durham from Atlanta, Ga. An athletic, 6-1 LHP, he boasts a fastball in the high 80s while also mixing in a slider, curveball and changeup.

“Mitch was highly recruited by top ACC and SEC programs,” Pollard added. “He combines an upper 80s fastball with two, plus breaking pitches and a devastating changeup. He also has a dynamic pickoff move to first base. Mitch is a tremendous competitor, and we are thrilled to have him in the program.”

As a junior, Stallings led The Lovett School to the Class AA state baseball championship, the program’s seventh state title in baseball. He pitched a complete game in the opening contest of the championship series, then went the distance again to guide the Lions to a 5-2 victory in the decisive third game. Stallings finished the 2013 campaign with a 10-2 record, posting a 1.10 ERA to go along with 112 strikeouts over 89 innings of work.

Stallings is one of 13 incoming recruits set to arrive in the fall of 2014. will release each of the Blue Devils’ 2014 signing class over the next few weeks, so check back for more information on all the future Duke players.
