DURHAM, N.C. – The recipient of the team’s Omaha Award this year, senior outfielder Anthony D’Alessandro played in 131 games, starting 88, over the course of his Duke career. A career .257 hitter, he totaled 12 doubles, four triples and 34 RBI and graduated this spring with a degree in Psychology as well as a certificate in Markets and Management Studies.

GoDuke.com recently caught up with the Mahwah, N.J. native at the 2014 ACC Baseball Championship.

GoDuke.com: What’s your favorite thing about being a Duke student-athlete?
D’Alessandro: I mean being part of a team is obviously the best thing. The locker room atmosphere is awesome. Obviously the on-field memories are pretty unbelievable. Just being part of the team, getting to know all these guys and being a really good friend, that type of thing… it’s just irreplaceable.

GoDuke.com: What’s your favorite on-field memory?
AD: I’d say this year the comeback wins against UNC and NC State. Especially against UNC because we had gone the three previous years without getting a win against them. So to completely transform that and sweep them, especially in the fashion we did was unbelievable.

GoDuke.com: What’s your favorite off-field memory?
AD: Just the locker room atmosphere is awesome. All the guys hanging out all the time. Coach Pollard has really made that an emphasis. He wants us in there. He wants us to be a family and I’ll miss that the most.

GoDuke.com: Can you describe Coach Pollard in three words?
AD: Have An Approach. All the guys know exactly what I’m talking about. I would definitely say that he stresses having an approach quite a bit.

GoDuke.com: What are three things you would do on a day off without school, practice, etc.?
AD: I think I can speak for everyone on the team. I think we’d just take nap after, nap, after nap. Three naps for sure.

GoDuke.com: Who are three people you model your game after?
AD: I always liked Shane Victorino growing up. I’m a Yankees fan so it’s kind of unfortunate that he plays for the Red Sox now. I always modeled my game after him. I really like the way he plays … very aggressive, very hustle-type player. I always looked up to Derek Jeter; obviously I’m a Yankees fan. I think he approaches everything the right way. I think he’s a model citizen and a model baseball player. There’re countless guys. I was always a Joe DiMaggio fan growing up just because of his consistent approach and how well he was able to do on a day-in, day-out basis.
