DURHAM, N.C. - Duke field hockey assistant coach Jarred Martin has been promoted to the position of associate head coach, as announced by head coach Pam Bustin Tuesday, July 2. Martin enters his seventh season with the Duke program in 2013.

“I welcome the partnership of Jarred Martin in leading this Blue Devil program,” Bustin said. “Jarred has the experience and knowledge with the ever changing game of hockey as well as a great history with this athletic department. His elevated level of responsibility should serve our student-athletes well and contribute to the growth and efficiency of every aspect within our program. Jarred is a dedicated and accomplished coach, a quality person, and a great asset to Duke Field Hockey. I am extremely excited about our future.”

An offensive specialist, Martin possesses excellent technical knowledge which he developed through coaching and in building his impressive resume with the U.S. Men’s National Team.  The Saratoga Springs, N.Y., native earned 104 caps during his twelve seasons with the national squad before retiring in the spring of 2012.  During his playing tenure, he competed in three Pan American Games, two Olympic qualifiers, two World Cup qualifiers and three Pan American Cups.  Serving as the team’s starting center forward, Martin was one of the team leaders in goals throughout his career.

Martin arrived at Duke prior to the 2007 season and has helped the squad amass a 64-54 record and led the program to three NCAA Tournament appearances and two trips to the NCAA Elite Eight in 2008 and 2011. Under his tutelage, Duke has produced 12 All-America selections, 28 All-South Region honorees and 12 All-ACC picks.

Martin’s coaching experience also extends beyond the collegiate level as he is involved in the U.S. coaching system.  He served as the USA U17 Assistant Coach the past two years, traveling to Canada and Holland.  He also works with the South High Performance Training Center (HPTC), which just recently won the Women’s’ National Championships in May.  Martin earned a Level III Accreditation from USA Field Hockey in the summer of 2010.

A graduate of the University at Albany, Martin received a Bachelor of Science degree in biochemistry in 2005 after receiving Dean’s List recognition each semester and graduating Magna Cum Laude.  He graduated with a Masters in Sports Administration in May 2012.
