DURHAM, N.C.-Just seven days away now before the Duke men's lacrosse team takes the field in search of its eighth ACC Tournament crown. The reigning ACC Champions, the Blue Devils open the 2013 campaign Feb. 9 against No. 9 Denver at 12 p.m.

Since the ACC Tournament began in 1989, Duke has captured seven tournament titles, including the most recent in 2012. The Blue Devils first brought the trophy back to Durham in 1995, beating Virginia and then rival North Carolina. Duke scored a combined 31 goals in those games, the most in ACC Tournament history at the time.

The Blue Devils had to wait six more years to climb back to the top spot, defeating North Carolina and Maryland for the program's first title in the new millennium. The following season saw Duke achieve championship status again as it won a pair of one-goal games over Maryland and Virginia for the third ACC Tournament title in eight seasons.

Duke again found itself on the top podium spot in 2007 under the direction of new head coach John Danowski. That became a regular spot for the Blue Devils as they captured the next two crowns, marking the first time Duke had won three consecutive ACC titles in school history. In 2009, Duke's high powered offense matched the 1995 squad's 31 goals, which still stands as the ACC Tournament record for goals scored in a tournament.

The Blue Devils relinquished control in 2010 and 2011 before taking home their fourth title in the past six seasons in 2012. Duke edged Maryland in the semifinals in 2012 and outlasted rival North Carolina for the eighth time in ACC Tournament history to win its seventh title and fourth under Danowski.

Duke is 20-16 overall in ACC Tournament history and 7-6 in championship games. Duke's performance in 1995 still stands strong in the ACC records book as the 31 goals, 24 assists, 123 ground balls and 36 saves in the two games combined all remain ACC Tournament records.
