DURHAM, N.C.-Duke University men's lacrosse head coach John Danowski recently announced the addition of former University of Maryland standout Joe Cinosky as a volunteer assistant coach. Cinosky joins the staff immediately and will work closely with the defense.

"We are thrilled to have Joe join our staff," Danowski said. "He has been successful as a player at every level and most recently enjoyed success coaching a collegiate club team. His presence on the staff will be invaluable for us and the student-athletes. We are excited to welcome him to the Duke family."

Cinosky, a stellar defenseman for the Terrapins, has excelled on all levels, winning titles in the international and professional ranks. He has been a mainstay with the U.S. National Team and most recently was selected to the team for the upcoming "Duel in Denver" versus Canada. He was a member of the 2010 squad that captured the gold medal at the Federation of International Lacrosse World Championship in Manchester, England.

"I'm so excited to join the staff here at Duke," Cinosky said. "I appreciate being awarded the opportunity to work at a school like Duke with this outstanding group of coaches and student-athletes. I look forward to learning from each of them and am thrilled to join the Duke coaching family."

A USILA All-America choice and first team All-ACC selection for Maryland in 2008, Cinosky was a four-year starter for the Terrapins. During his time at Maryland, he helped guide the team to 43-23 overall record and two appearances in the NCAA semifinals.

Following graduation from Maryland in 2008, Cinosky was selected ninth overall by New Jersey in the Major League Lacrosse Draft. In 2009, he was voted to the MLL All-Star team and helped captain the Toronto Nationals to the MLL Championship. He captured his second MLL title the following year with the Chesapeake Bayhawks. He currently suits up in the MLL with Matt Danowski on the Charlotte Hounds. Overall in his MLL career, Cinosky has played in 48 games and has three goals and two assists with 93 ground balls.

Cinosky joined the coaching ranks in 2010 as the head coach of the University of Minnesota Club Lacrosse program. In three seasons with the Gophers, the Boonton Township, N.J., native guided them to a 23-18 record. This past season the team finished 9-7 and earned a berth in the Upper Midwest Lacrosse League Championship.

Cinosky graduated from the University of Maryland in 2008 with a degree in criminology. He hails from Boonton Township, N.J., where he played at Mountain Lakes High School for legendary coach Tim Flynn. He was a three-time All-State selection, a two-time High School Defenseman of the Year for the state of New Jersey and a two-time All-American. He also led his prep team to three-consecutive New Jersey State Championships.
