DURHAM, N.C.-Duke University men's lacrosse head coach John Danowski has announced the selection of seniors Bill Conners, David Lawson and Josh Offit as team captains for the 2013 season. The trio of veterans, voted captains by their teammates, will lead the Blue Devils in their quest for an eighth ACC title and 17th NCAA Tournament appearance.
"I think the choice of Billy, Dave and Josh as captains for this season is a great one," Danowski said. "These guys have been around the program for four years and have demonstrated to the coaching staff and their teammates that they have what it takes to be leaders on and off the field. It's a great honor for each of them."
Conners, a defenseman, has been a mainstay on the Duke close defense and on the man-down squad during his career. He played in 18 games last season, including two starting assignments, and collected 12 ground balls and one caused turnover. For his career, Conners has played in 56 games, corralled 49 ground balls and registered seven caused turnovers. He also has two tallies to his name.
A mainstay in the Blue Devils' midfield throughout his career, Lawson returns for his final season with extensive experience. The Westford, Mass., native has played in all but one game during his career and netted 37 goals and 15 assists for 52 points.
A midfielder, Offit has played in every game the previous two seasons and 51 for his career. A leader on the field and in the weight room for the Blue Devils, the Bethesda, Md., native registered 11 goals and 17 points overall in 2012. In his 51 career games, Offit owns 37 goals and 13 assists for 50 points.
The Blue Devils officially kick off the 2013 campaign, Jan. 9 versus rival Denver. Faceoff with the Pioneers is set for 12 p.m., at Koskinen Stadium.
