DURHAM, N.C.—Duke University was selected as the No. 7 overall seed in the NCAA Division I Men’s Lacrosse Tournament and will host Loyola at Koskinen Stadium in the opening round, May 12 at 5:15 p.m. The Blue Devils earned one of the eight at-large bids to the tournament and will be making their 17th appearance in the NCAA postseason event.

Tickets for the game are $7 for adults and $5 for students and senior citizens. Fans can purchase tickets at GoDuke.com or by calling the Duke ticket office at 1-877-375-3853. The game will be televised live by ESPNU.

Duke and Loyola will be squaring off for the second time this season. The Blue Devils edged the then-No. 3 Greyhounds 9-8 to spark a nine-game win streak that spanned nearly two months. The two teams also met in the first round of the NCAA Tournament in 2008 with the Blue Devils cruising to a 12-7 victory.

The Blue Devils finished the regular season with a 12-5 overall record are appearing in the NCAA Tournament for the 17th time overall and for the seventh straight season. Duke has been among the top eight seeds in 15 of its 17 tournament appearances and is the No. 7 seed for the fourth time. Duke is 3-3 all-time as the No. 7 seed, last earning the placing in 2002.

Overall, the Blue Devils are 24-15 all-time in NCAA Tournament history and 15-5 under head coach John Danowski. Duke has advanced to the final weekend in each of the past six seasons. Danowski is one of two coaches to lead a program to lacrosse’s championship weekend in each of his first six seasons at the helm and is looking to become the first coach to do so in his first seven campaigns – John Desko of Syracuse did so from 1999-2004, but was eliminated in the first round in 2005.

Junior attackman Jordan Wolf headlines a balanced Duke offense with 47 goals and 27 assists for 74 points. Josh Dionne owns 39 points and is five shy of reaching the 100-points benchmark, while senior Josh Offit is having a career-year with 24 goals and 39 points overall. Senior David Lawson is third on the team in goals (26) and fourth in points (38).  Overall, Duke sports the nation’s No. 3-ranked scoring offense and is averaging the second most points per game among Division I squads.

The 2013 ACC Defensive Player of the Year, Brendan Fowler anchors the faceoff game for the Blue Devils with a .654 win percentage at the X. He owns the Duke single-season ground ball record with 167 ground balls. Defensively, Luke Duprey has a career-high 31 caused turnovers and 54 ground balls. In goal, Kyle Turri sports a 9.05 goals against average and a .503 save percentage. Against the Greyhounds, the sophomore goaltender made nine saves on 17 shots on goal.

Loyola also earned an at-large bid to the postseason after falling to eventual ECAC champion Ohio State in the ECAC Tournament semifinal. The reigning national champions are 11-4 overall with all four losses coming to NCAA Tournament squads – Ohio State, Denver, Duke and Maryland.

Pacing the Greyhound attack is Justin Ward with 57 points from 27 goals and 30 assists. Mike Sawyer is the top goal scorer with 34 tallies and longstick midfielder Scott Ratliff has contributed 13 goals and four assists for 17 points. Ratliff, with 29 caused turnovers and 75 ground balls, anchors a defense that is allowing 8.53 goals per game. Blake Burkhart handles the faceoff duties, winning 48 percent (108-of-224).

In goal, Jack Runkel owns an 8.58 goals against average and a .521 save percentage.

The winner advances to play the winner of the Notre Dame/Detroit game at Lucas Oil Stadium in Indianapolis, Ind., May 19.
