DURHAM, N.C.—Duke University men’s lacrosse head coach John Danowski and NCAA Tournament Most Outstanding Player will throw out the honorary first pitches at the Durham Bulls game Wednesday, June 19. The Durham Bulls are set to take on the Louisville Bats at 7:05 p.m.

Danowski and Fowler recently helped lead the Blue Devils to their second NCAA Championship in men’s lacrosse in four seasons this past Memorial Day. Duke defeated top-seeded Syracuse in the title game 16-10 to cap off a 16-5 season. The Blue Devils won 14 of their final 15 games after starting the year 2-4.

Fowler was named the NCAA Championship Most Outstanding Player after winning 20-of-28 faceoffs against the Orange. The Wantagh, N.Y., native set a NCAA single-season record for faceoff victories with 339, while his 209 ground balls on the year rank second in NCAA history.  A first team All-American, Fowler won 64 percent (339-of-526) of his restarts in his first season as the full time draw man. He added three goals to his total.

In seven seasons at Duke, Danowski has amassed a 111-29 record and won a pair of NCAA crowns. He is one of five active  Division I men’s lacrosse head coaches to have multiple NCAA titles to his name and currently ranks second in career victories with 330. Under the longtime head coach, the Blue Devils have advanced to seven straight championship weekends, winning twice and finishing as the runner up once. He is the lone men’s lacrosse coach in NCAA history to guide his team to seven straight NCAA semifinal appearances in each of his first seven seasons at the helm of the program. Danowski overall is 330-168 in his 30 seasons.
