Setting the Scene

  • Duke continues its tough stretch of three top 10 opponents Friday night against No. 4 Loyola at Koskinen Stadium
  • The Blue Devils are 2-4 overall, while the Greyhounds are 4-1
  • Duke will honor those who have served his or her country with Military Appreciation Day ... U.S. veterans of any military service branch or active duty military personnel and their immediate families will receive a $3 discount ticket to the game ... Veterans or their family representatives can come to the Duke ticket office, located at Cameron Indoor Stadium, between 8:30 am - 4:30 pm to pick up tickets. Military I.D. must be presented to receive tickets.

Loyola, the reigning NCAA Champion, comes to Durham with a 4-1 overall record and ranked fourth nationally ... The Greyhounds are coming off of an 8-6 win over Bellarmine, while their lone setback is to top-ranked Maryland ... Justin Ward leads the attack with 14 goals and 10 assists for 24 points, while Mike Sawyer has 12 goals and 14 points overall ... Blake Burkhart and Brendan Donovan share the faceoff duties with .582 and .500 win percentages at the X, respectively ... Long pole Scott Ratliff owns a team-best 26 ground balls and 10 caused turnovers ... Between the pipes Jack Runkel owns a 9.33 goals against average and a .500 save percentage.

Last Time Duke and Loyola Met
Loyola jumped out to a 7-4 halftime lead and made it 12-5 after three quarters en route to a 13-8 home victory in 2012 ... Mike Sawyer had an impressive six goals and two assists in the victory, while Jack Runkel made 12 saves ... Scott Ratliff anchored the Greyhounds' defensive efforts with four caused turnovers.

Duke vs. Reigning NCAA Champions
Since the NCAA crowned its first NCAA men's lacrosse champion in 1971, the Blue Devils have faced 15 reigning national title holders 18 times ... Duke is 4-14 all-time in games against the previous year's national champion with three of those wins coming against Virginia ... The Blue Devils are 3-9 in regular season matchups with the reigning NCAA winner.

Duke has fared much better this season than last on extra man offense ... The Blue Devils already have 12 man-up scores after notching just 17 in 20 games last season ... Duke is successful in 52 percent of its man-up chances in 2013, to rank sixth nationally, with Wolf leading the squad with five extra-man tallies, one more than his two previous seasons combined.

Since 2006, Duke has amassed a 70-30 (.700) record versus ranked opponents ... Duke is 0-3 so far in 2013 against ranked opponents after falling to then No. 9 Denver, No. 3 Notre Dame and No. 1 Maryland.

One Goal Games
Duke improved to 69-61 all-time in games decided by one goal  when it held off Maryland 6-5 in the 2012  ACC Semifinal ... Duke played a program-high seven one-goal games in both 1994 and 1997 ... Duke is 11-5 in one-goal games under John Danowski and 3-3 against Loyola.

Fowler at the X

Duprey Manning the Defense
Junior longstick midfielder Luke Duprey had a career game against Notre Dame with a career-high five turnovers and four ground balls ... The five caused turnovers are the second most by a Blue Devil since the NCAA started tracking the stat in 2010 ... Only Tom Montelli '11 had more with six against Sacred Heart in 2010 ... Duprey leads Duke with 15 caused turnovers, ranking second in the ACC and fifth nationally.
