DURHAM, N.C. - Recently, sat down with with senior midfielder Henry Meyer to learn more about the Newton, Mass., native. What is your favorite part of being a Duke student-athlete?
Henry Meyer:
The culture it comes with – there are great people around in every sport at this school. What has been your proudest moment at Duke?
HM: Definitely the national championship. What is your favorite spot on campus?
Right outside The Loop, on the walkway. Tell us about the first time you started playing lacrosse.
I went to summer camp and the first day we had to shoot on a professional goalie. I was eight years old. I take a shot and obviously he pops it up and catches it. I turn and I’m walking back to the line and ‘BAM. Lights out.’ He threw the ball back to me as if I was going to catch it and just clocked me right in the back of the head and knocked me out. The next day I went to baseball camp and swore off lacrosse. A year later, I realized lacrosse was better for me. What’s your favorite midnight snack?
Fruit Gushers. As a child, what did you want to be when you grew up? What do you want to be now?
I wanted to build power plants. From the business side, I’m doing that next year. Are there any words of wisdom you’d like to pass along to freshmen and future Blue Devils?
Spend time with the older guys. You think it’s very separated by grades but it isn’t – just jump right in. Do you have any pre-game rituals or superstitions?
Eye black, definitely. There was one game that I didn’t wear eye black and we lost that game my freshman year. I’ve not done it since. What is your favorite class you’ve taken at Duke?
EMV 130 with Lincoln Pratson. Lincoln Pratson is the man. If you could choose anyone, who would you pick as your mentor?
Elon Musk. He started PayPal, sold it. Started a solar panel company, sold it. Started the Tesla car company, sold it. And now started a company that shoots rockets into space and lands them back on Earth. He’s the man and he’s only 35. What is your favorite restaurant in Durham?
HM: Depends. Date night – blu. Just stuff my face – Q Shack.
