WASHINGTON D.C.-The seventh-ranked Duke men's lacrosse team outscored Georgetown 5-1 in the fourth quarter to capture a crucial 15-10 non-conference victory over the No. 10 Hoyas at Multi-Sport Field. The win is the fourth straight for the Blue Devils.

The starting attack unit of seniors Ned Crotty and Max Quinzani and junior Zach Howell did its usual damage, combining for 12 of the team's 21 points on the day. Quinzani and Howell both contributed three goals and an assist, while Crotty had one tally and three helpers.

Junior defenseman Tom Montelli also had an outstanding afternoon with a career-high two goals, three caused turnovers and two ground balls. Montelli registered one goal to end the third quarter and his second in the fourth period.

Georgetown took an early 2-0 lead in the opening quarter with tallies from Max Seligmann and Zack Angel in the opening 3:47. Duke came right back with three unanswered for a 3-2 advantage midway through the first period. Senior Jon Livadas started the three-goal spurt with a strike from eight yards out and Quinzani added two more in a span of 1:16 to give Duke its first lead of the game.

The Blue Devils and the Hoyas traded goals in the final seven minutes of the quarter as Duke entered the first intermission with a 4-3 edge.

After nearly eight minutes of scoreless lacrosse in the second quarter, Georgetown tied the match at four with a tally from Scott Kocis. Less than two minutes later the Hoyas regained the lead at 5-4 as Seligmann notched his second goal of the game.

The Georgetown defense stifled the Blue Devil attack for much of the quarter, but a save from freshman goaltender Dan Wigrizer at the 1:10 mark gave Duke the ball back for a chance to tie the game. The Blue Devils cleared and after a restart Quinzani raced past a Hoya defenseman and dumped the ball in goal to make it a 5-5 game. The Hoyas had one final look at the end of the half, but Wigrizer made the crucial save to keep the score at five apiece.

Wigrizer finished the game with 13 saves, including making nine in the first half. Georgetown outshot the Blue Devils 24-11 in the opening 30 minutes.

The third quarter featured a flurry of scoring with both squads combining for nine goals. After Georgetown took an 8-6 lead in the early minutes, the Blue Devils went on a 4-1 run, bookended by goals from Montelli for a 10-9 lead after three stanzas.

Junior Justin Turri started the scoring in the third for Duke, but it was Georgetown that rattled off the next three goals for an 8-6 lead after just 5:12 of action.

Montelli started Duke's scoring burst with a transition score at the 9:34 mark. Turri and Howell sandwiched goals over the next 1:25 before Montelli put in his second goal of the day as the buzzer sounded to give Duke the 10-9 lead heading into the fourth.

The fourth quarter was all Duke as the Blue Devil defense put the clamps on the Hoyas, holding them to one goal. The Blue Devils started to pull away with goals from Sam Payton and Crotty in the early minutes for a 12-9 edge.

The Hoyas pulled within two at the 11:46 mark, but Duke never let them get any closer as it added three more scores to the board for the 15-10 victory.

Georgetown held a slight 41-36 advantage in shots and both teams finished the afternoon with 36 ground balls. The Hoyas won the faceoff duel, taking 16-of-28 restarts. Duke was 0-for-4 on man-up opportunities, while Georgetown was 1-for-2. Jack Davis finished with 14 saves for the Hoyas.

Duke continues this stretch of four games in nine days on March 30 against No. 15 Brown. The Blue Devils and Bears square off at 3 p.m., at Koskinen Stadium.
