Nollner, who won silver at the U-20 Junior Olympics last season and competed with Team USA at the Junior World Championships last April, began the event by winning four of his six bouts during the opening-round pool format. In the single-elimination second round, he receiving an opening round bye and defeated Ian Crocker 15-13 before falling 15-10 to eventual third-place finisher Adam Watson.
Nollner was one of four Duke fencers to earn a top-50 finish at the national event. Representing Duke in Division I men's saber were freshman Charles Copti (23rd) and Eugene Chung (43rd), and representing the Blue Devils in Division I women's epee was freshman Isabella Barna (43rd).
