How did you get into fencing?
When I moved to Portland, Ore., my friend introduced me to fencing. I had never realized fencing was an actual sport outside of "The Parent Trap" or that Portland would be such a huge hub for fencing.
If you weren’t a fencer, what sport would you be playing?
Do you have a hidden talent?
Drawing and creative writing.
What is your favorite late-night snack?
Breakfast at midnight.
What was your favorite subject in high school?

Why did you choose to fence at Duke University?
The team atmosphere and overall university's atmosphere. We're competitive, but it doesn't get in the way of collaboration. We want everyone to succeed.
What is your favorite decoration in the fencing gym?
The masks with various countries' flags painted on them.
What is your favorite book?
The Mortal Instruments series and The Great Gatsby.
What is your favorite movie?
That's a very big question. Chick flicks like "Pitch Perfect," "She's the Man," and "Mean Girls" aside, I love "The Hunger Games" and "Scott Pilgrim Vs. The World."
Do you have any other interests or pursuits?
Skiing, drawing, and writing.
Are you doing something awesome that you want everybody to know about?
I am part of Duke's Athlete Ally group, which began holding its first meetings this year. We're hoping to raise greater awareness about issues between the LGBT and athlete community on-campus.
What will you be doing in ten years?
I don't even know what I'll be doing in one year.
